Your haircolor is fantastic. Do you color your hair? What do you use? Your hair looks so shiny and well conditioned. Please give us some details.

My brother (my "used to be stylist"...j/k I am still going to him for re-touches) did my color. He is in a shop on Windy Hill Road (off 75). The first time he did it a year and a half ago, I wasn't too pleased with the highlights. My regular hair color is brown and I told him I wanted really light brown, almost blond highlights. I had never had highlights before that time and when he was done, I wasn't that crazy about it. To me, it looked too coppery, but it grew on me. He distributed the color evenly and I think it was just me never having color in my hair in all my 35 years and trying to get used to it. To show you how naive I was about it, the next week when I went to get my hair done, I took him a picture of the exact color I wanted that I had clipped out of a magazine and I thought he could re-do it:grin: ....didn't know I had to wait until they grew out (LOL)

This past August he did them again and he combined like 3 colors. Three different shades of blond and light brown. I really like it a lot, but wish I had more of the blond (they are hidden on the bottom and you can see them really well when I pull my hair up)

Wow! Your color is so beautiful!! I just looked at the rest of your pics. AND we are the same hair type. So, give it up...what is your regimen? And the color....wow! I LOVE it!

I wanna know too. Your hair is awesome color and all!

O.K., don't quite know how to put the album link in, heck, tthreat just showed me how to post my siggy:lol: , but go to photo galleries at the very top of the page and I have uploaded some pictures there in the member galleries......

For the past 8 or 9 years, I have gone to the hair salon religiously every week. Although I could do my own hair, it was just too long and too much of a pain to do; I always ended up with more hair in the comb than anything (it used to be a few inches past BSL). All my stylist did was gave me a doobie every week and I would wrap it nightly until I went to see her again; no heat except the hood dryer....I didn't even have shampoo in my house!! I did know how to do my own hair though, it's just that as it got longer, it was too much to deal with.(wish I had found the board back then!!!)

I moved to ATL a year and a half ago and my brother started doing my hair. I had just gotten it cut about chin length (I would do it time to time over the years b/c I was discouraged and wonder why it wouldn't get straight straight without frizzing up when it rained or was humid - didn't know about ceramic irons), but when he flat ironed it didn't frizz up, i was too happy and told him i wanted to grow my hair back out...I let him cut layers and do highlights which was a first for both. In August of this year, I was one of his models for the Bronner Brothers Show and I was sitting there in the coliseum (without a mirror) and when he got done I went to the bathroom to check it out and realized that he cut a lot of my hair off! I was really pissed and told him that if he was just trying to get it to a more even length for show purposes, he could have let me know that in advance....I have boycotted him since August 20th! I was also curious that why in the year and a half since I have moved here my hair hasn't grown at the rate it has in the past.....I was really depressed about my hair, and then I found the board:yay:

Learned quickly that the thing my hair was missing most was moisture. I don't like anything wet or sticky in my hair so besides serum, I NEVER applied anything to my hair daily. BIG MISTAKE. With the color, not just moisture, but additional moisture is a MUST. I am now at 14 weeks post and the past few weeks, I did the cw'ing, and though it gave me additional moisture and helped to manage new growth, a lot of my hair kept coming out, even if I didn't comb it until i washed again. And the truth be told, I really do like to wear my hair out; my hair is very fine and I make a pitiful bun. (lol)
And yes, I did use MTG for the past 3 months until it did a number on my neck. But from gathering bits and pieces of other people's routine and going back to what I know when I used to do my own hair back in the day, this is what I do: (nothing too much different from a lot of others; that's where I came up with everything from )
-Pretreat my hair the night before pooing with EVOO and a plastic cap. I can tell the difference when I don't. I just go to sleep in the cap. Makes the hair very easy to comb through once you have pood.
-Poo once a week with Creme of Nature Shampoo, followed by any moisturizing conditioner (Suave, V05, etc.), followed by a deep conditioner cocktail mix of cholesterol, conditioner, honey, EVOO (sit under dryer with plastic cap for 30 mins)
-Use leave-in detangler (Infusiom, Surge 14, or Ion)
-Use Creamy detanglers (Rusk Smoother, Mane n Tail Conditioner; NTM Silk Touch; hair will be very soft when you take the rollers out!)
-Apply WGO on the scalp
-Rollerset....(use jojoba oil and NTM Silk Touch on ends)
***Will be doing a protein Reconstructor every 2 weeks and a heavy protein every 6 weeks; I have tried Aphogee and I like it)

When I take it down, it is very soft and the WGO has "marinated" on the scalp and makes everything so manageable. After about 12 weeks, I will have to flat iron the roots. This is my first time stretching and I had originally planned to go to 16 weeks, but I may go 20. I use NTM Silk Touch on a daily basis, but I am trying to find an additional moisturizer b/c there's not a whole lot in that bottle.

That is it. I was just so frustrated that I wasn't seeing the rate of growth that I know my hair is capable of. I think my brother neglected to tell me that color treated hair needs extra moisture (he probably thought I knew that) and I neglected to ask him about any special treatment of color treated hair. I have def. seen a lot of growth in the 3 months that I have been doing my own hair. The 14 weeks post pic is with new growth and all, so i am sure when I get a touch up, it will be a few more inches.......

Sorry so long winded, but I was just too happy when I finally straightened my hair out last week (didn't even realize that it was almost exactly 3 months either).....The board has been a godsend:)

Thanks ladies:) I am so glad to have found the board to "remind" me of the things I need to do to take care of my hair.

MsColWhite, just pm when you need the address to the shop; no prob.

Your hair looks amazing, it looks as if your hair must grow an inch a month. Good growing!

Yeah, it's probably been growing this whole past year and a half but I guess my stylist was cutting my growth off!

I wanted to guess that, but didn't know for sure, but I will know for sure once I get my touch up on Dec. 10th. In the 14 weeks post pic, I called myself flat ironing my roots, but I guess I only flat ironed them enough to be manageable; they are still thick, so I am going to be too excited when I get my touch up in 2 more weeks!

I agree with everyones statement your hair is very pretty indeed. I am always inspired whenever I see hair as lovely as yours.

Awww, thanks ladies.:) I just get really ticked though everytime I think about how over a year and half's time period, my hair could have been way past BSL. I have to admit that I wasn't moisturizing the whole time, but not moisturizing can't lead to that much of my ends being clipped off every 2 months!(especially when I'm going to the hair salon EVERY week) I am just looking forward to the next 3 months, and the next, etc.

blackbarbie your hair is beautiful! i love the color and how it is so shiny! do you spray oil sheen on it, or is that shine from washing and oiling while wet?

Thanks!:) No oil sheen, just apply WGO to my scalp when I rollerset, but I really think it's the Rusk Smoothers and the Mane n Tail Conditioner that I rollerset with. I also keep it moisturized daily with NTM Silk Touch Moisturizer. I am kind of afraid of applying oil directly to my hair b/c i always tend to overdo it. (had just finished rollersetting one day and when I put the oil ON my hair, it was a mess; weighed it down and made it too greasy looking; had to rewash and rollerset all over again - too much work!)

thank you for the reply!:D
