So I met a woman today who does the BB and who has it in her hair......She told me that the "wearing off process" is really hype.... That is why they encourage you to keep getting the process done. " you have new growth.... etc...."

:nono::nono: She said straight out - "If you want to keep your natural hair, don't do it."

That was enough for me...... Too good to be true. I guess you could say that it is the relaxer of the 21st century....

But - I am not ready to give up my curls yet.....

Alas.... the search for the best of both worlds continues....

Just in case you are interested.....

Yup just as i thought. I think I will just stick with my flat iron whenever I get the guts to straighten my hair.

Yea, these pics look familiar...like the ones posted for the Brazilian Keratin treatmen...aka BKT. Did they change the name, or am I getting this confused with the Dominican blow-out??

I don't understand what the issue is? There are a few unknown variables besides her getting the Brazilian Blowout. I was of the understanding that this product had no formaldehyde/derivatives. Is this not the case?

I'm not saying you should or should not go for keratin, just that the info. seems incomplete.

There are a few keratin smoothing products on the market, maybe that would something you could look into.?

i think the issue is that the process is not temporary like they say, and that it never really wears off and the hair return to its pretreated state. thats what i got out of it anyways.

Yeah trust your hair will not go COMPLETELY back to normal after these keratin treatments. (IMO) I got the treatment last July and my hair is still recovering, I'm hoping to cut all the treated hair out little by little

i've always suspected this... i didnt need the confirmation to not do it.

but for those looking for another alternative to relaxing (not wanting to go back and forth between straight and natural) this might be good

Well, they have also changed the formulation - according to a couple of articles. Absolutely no formaldehyde - or its derivatives...... so - this woman probably has the old formulation since the new one came out in March 2010.... Long term observations are in order...... We will see what they do in a year. It has been out for about 2 years.

Thanks for this thread OP. Last summer I went overseas to visit my cousin who gets the BKT done, and she and her hairdressers were trying so hard to push the treatment on me, since my hair is really kinky compared to theirs. Anyway, I had this suspicion from day 1, which is the reason why I've steered away from any BKT's

Lately, I've gotten over my fears and was looking to order the Softliss and do 1 application just for a change during the summer (and give the rest my aunt) but now HELL NO! I'm at least gonna wait it out to hear more curl reversion stories

THANKS OP! I would've been beyond devastated...

Thats true for me as well. I got a sew in weave done in february and it was just disaster upon disater. First off I went in there natural and the lady who was to wash my hair was about to put a relaxer in it until I saw her take a big spatula with white cream and come towards my head and ducked while screaming. Then when it was time for the weave and the part I had out she put a little bit of liquid on ( which i thought was heat protectant) that turned out to be some sort of keratin treatment and to this day that part in my head is straight. If it werent right in the front of my head I'd cut it off and start over :ohwell:

was your hair damaged? please elaborate on ur experience

OP, you still searching for both worlds? Girl, let me tell you, I already live in both worlds. I flatiron my hair when I want it straight and then wash off the serum when I want my curls back. What's more, I have full control of the process. No waiting time. I do it when I want to and it happens when I want it to happen. And it's so cheap. And as if that's not enough, I am not entrusting some stranger with my precious mane.

Lucky's Mom, please stop looking. You already have all you ever need/want right where you are. I guess it's human nature to seek happiness outside of ourselves when it has always been right where we are, and always with us.

I can only speak on my own experience but my curls/kinks are the same now as they were pre-bkt. The straight hair I have came from recent heat damage that I incurred by using a plain old CHI iron, CHI serum and CHI heat protectant spray.

Has the sylist in question ever seen the hair of someone who has not had the Brazilian blowout in 6-12 months? I assume most of the people she sees come in for the process on the regular.
