Black Hair Care Classes

You should probably dedicate some time to proper weave care also. Talk to them about how to protect their edges, wash with the weave in, keep their hair moisturized under the weave, and about taking it out in a reasonable time frame to prevent matting and hair loss.

Also maybe talk about black owned hair care lines and black business to give it an entrepreneurial spin on the importance of black businesses, that can go into the history of haircare productsé

I did a hair training class for foster parents (very poor showing). I discussed what I did and demonstrated on my hair. I demonstrated sectioning hair, detangling, and twisting. I mock showed how I wash my hair. Showed them a single strand knot. I discussed shrinkage and showed the difference in my shrunken hair and stretched hair. I brought the products I use and described how I used them. Discussed different combs and stressed the importance of using a wide toothed comb and being gentle. I ended the class by demonstrating my fast, easy go to style, putting my hair in an afro puff.
I had handouts and a print out of my regimen.

The key for me and what they appeared to appreciate the most was the demonstrations I did on my hair.

I wish someone would organise some community-based classes for these girls (and their moms... whether ethnic Norwegian or African immigrant), and help them see - and realise - the beauty of their own [type of] hair, with a little care.

Would you be willing to take on classes in your community?

No, I am not a 'people person'. I am more a fact/data and detail person. :yep: I could, however, provide some orientation and behind-the-scenes assistance to some entrepreneurial spirit able and willing to give it a go.

Please come back and tell us how the courses went. Would love to hear about your experience.

Too bad there are no LHCF ladies around you to come in and do Q&A. Is it possible for you to skype with some of us or maybe others who have a healthy haircare practice and show this to the ladies? Just a thought.

I will keep you all posted throughout the journey - its a joint effort afterall.:yep:

And of course if there are any London LHCF Ladies willing to support, I won't be saying no.

Don't limit yourself. Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. You could start with as little as 4 girls at a time.
If not, then seek someone from your area that has the skill and you can train them with the knowledge. By any means necessary.:yep:

Beautiful encouragement. :yep: But, I'd have to like people in reality, a whole lot more, to want to get that involved with them.

I need to step up my push/plan to 'import' a good friend of mine from the U.S. She is a hair stylist and beautician, who has owned her own salon, co-owned, and rented a chair from others. Lots of experience in different settings. I believe she is currently working for the Opera house in her city (hair/make-up), as well as the Actors' Guild (film make-up). She has long been curious about living abroad, and I would love to help her get a foot in the door here. I am thinking about sponsoring her in setting up a new business here, so she can obtain a work-residence visa.

Timing is everything!
