Is there some type of problem with black gel? I just wanted to know i thought I heard a negative comment about it one time and would like to know since I've been using it with my braids to keep the frizzies away!!

Never heard of black gel, now if you're talking about brown protein gel like Ecostyler...........personally i've never had any problem with it and never really understood why it gets such a bad rap :lachen:.

i use it sometimes for twists and apply it over a leave-in conditioner (vo5 for me) and my hair never dries hard or crunchy.

the only problem i could see happening is build-up especially if you're wearing longterm styles like braids but i think that could happen with any gel not just the brown stuff, idk. :perplexed

Yeah, thats what i was thinking----if you wearing it on hair thats not any braids or anything it should be good because you can moisturize your hair to counteract the dryness and wash it really good because it can have buildup-----but for braids, probally something less drying that would build up less.

BC it has protein in it. Too much protein is bad for your hair and can cause shedding. To be honest, I think with a lot of products and methods it's more improper use that causes problems and not the product or method itself. Sure the brown gel will break your hair off if you try combing through it after it's dry or something equally damaging. I stopped using it years ago because I didn't like the brown residue it left behind. That and once it dried completely it could make your hair look dull and dusty. So I moved onto other alternatives (like EQP Glaze and also this gel Designer Touch used to make) when I went to a different stylist and they used those products on my hair. I never went back to the brown gel. Mainly because I liked that those products left my hair soft and shiny. With the brown gel, once too much of it is in there, you have to wash it out.

My old hairdresser still uses a little on the edges when she does most of her styles though. I guess if ain't broke, why fix it? Then she rollersets the rest of the hair and styles it when it's dry. Nothing holds those edges like the brown gel does though.

I have seriously been considering going back to brown gel....prostyle, etc. Like BMore said....Nothing hold edges down like brown gel

Brown Gel is the biz but IMO it comes with a lot of problems! :nono: It makes your hair hard as hell and sometimes you have to wash your hair more than once to get all the gunk out! yuck! To be honest, I hate it, based on my experiences when I used it as a teen. (Helmet hard hair, BUILDUP, stink) But then again I was a TEEN who wasent taking care of my hair back then. :lachen: So I havent used the stuff in AGES....I now use QP Elasta's Glaze, which works pretty well and moisturizes my hair! But you are a GROWN woman, not that silly girl I was back in the day, so as long as you are washing on a reg. basis, and moisturizing, then you should have no problem!

Sorry for the long post girl! Everytime I hear or see brown gel, all those bad memories come back! :lachen:
