Alright guys, I'm getting ready to shoot off to TX today to see my bf. I'm excited as I haven't seen him in about a month. I'm even more excited because I just bought my first bathing suit in YEARS and I really like it on me. :yep: Definitely gonna look hot by the pool. So that leads me to my question:

What in the world should I do with my hair?

Now, back in the day, before bkt, if I went swimming and left my hair out it would draw up to my head. But now, since my curls are loosened, do you think it will still draw up? Will the water make it heavy enough that it will hang as it does in the shower? I was going to wear it in a single braid pinned under, but I don't like the way my hair looks pulled back in my suit. It doesn't balance my body well.

I realize that any opinion will most likely be a guess and I welcome them all! What do you think will happen to my hair? Let it rip.

Oh, and no matter what, I'll definitely report back. Pics? Maybe... :)

I'm guessing slightly shorter than shower length because of the chlorine, but I have never bkt'd. Do I win something if I'm right? (Sorry just woke up a bit ago and I'm still a little slap happy).

Man Pandora... I didn't even think about prizes! Maybe I'd have more opinions if I had? LOL Tell ya what, you get a great big :thankyou: for being my first response. :drunk:

Thanks for stopping by and giving me your opinion. Ok, so slightly shorter than out of shower... :scratchch I think I can handle that.

I just hope my hair still has some bkt on it when I do my wash n go after swimming. Don't mind reapplying the bkt once I get home but I'd really like my wash n go to still be bangin while I'm there.

If u dont mind ruining the BKT since you will do it again at home, just go for it, and swim with it loose or in a loose ponytail. It will probably look pretty similar to a wash and go, except maybe dryer b/c chlorine is anything BUT moisturizing.

I personally dont BKT at all during the summer b/c i love the beach and pool and it would be a waste of money to strip it before its time.

btw - how often do u plan to be in the pool? one day wont kill the BKT but a full week probably will.

I was thinking the same thing, crazydaze. Won't the chlorine strip your BKT? Hmmm, I'd let it just hang natural or put it up in a cute type of big fluffly bun.

I can't swim so I have no idea about hair care for the pool. However, since you can redo your BKT when you get home, I would not worry about it & just wear a swim cap so the BKT does not totally strip by the end of the trip & leave you with an hour long detangling session.

I don't know where you are going in Texas but it is HOT here! I would just throw it in a big puff if I were you and call it a day. Have fun!

Hey Sheba! Happy you get to see your sweetie this weekend!

Two things come to mind, either oiling your hair (coconut oil) before your go swimming or putting a conditioner on it. Something to protect it.

Rinsing after you're done swimming, of course, & more oil & conditioner.

I'd be careful of sitting in the sun too much too, protect your hair & skin with a big hat.

I don't know swimming pool chemicals too well, but I don't think they put salt in there, the nicer pools have a ozone or UV light system so they don't have to use chemicals.

Have a great weekend!

Girl I'm in Texas too. Do you know it's 102 degrees??? I can't take it! You must love this man.

I like the coconut oil idea that Dak had. Anything to protect your precious BKT. Rinse that chlorine out as soon as you can! Condition Condition Condition. Your boyfriend will have to wait just a minute!

Hey guys! Just checking in. Thank your for all the responses. I'm here and I'm taking every one of them to heart. I haven't hopped in the pool, yet. I will only be here for another couple of days and probably only one of those will be in the pool. Definitely going to oil my hair down (thanks Dak!) and I'll go ahead and leave it loose so I can feel too cute! hahaha It may not even be necessary to really get my hair wet as we're probably not going to do a whole lot of swimming. More like hanging in the water, ya know? Maybe even just stay in the jacuzzi. Truth be told, this isn't about swimming, at all, just coming to look hot in my suit! :D

Yes, Pgirl, it is hotter than a bug on a bug zapper in these parts! Yep... that clenches it. I love him.. I love him... I love him...

Thank you everybody!!! :drunk:

ETA: So the verdict is in: bkt and the pool are not the best match. lol I did coat my hair with conditioner and did a quick curly updo. My hair did shrink, much more than when it is wet with conditioner. My hair did not give me any trouble after, but definitely needed a good DC. My hair was still smooth and easy to detangle but my wash n gos continued to draw up much more than previously until I was able to get home and do a protein treatment and DC.

Glad to hear all turned out well! Question: Did you every use a chlorine shampoo like Aloe Rid to get the chlorine out? I am going to a waterpark in two weeks and I need to know what to do afterwards. I was originally planning to do my second BKT July 21 but I am not sure cuz this trip will be like a week after. HELP! TIA

Thanks Mystic! I have read that one before. What I need to know is what to do after swimming in a chlorinated pool with bkt hair. I have seen mention of using a DC, but in my pre BK days I always used Aloe Rid or similar to remove chlorine from hair. I am wondering if any BKers who swim are using a special shampoo like Aloe Rid to remove chlorine or just rinsing the hair and reconditioning?

Hey there, Reyna! I didn't do anything special other than shampoo, reconstruct and deep condition. I did notice a difference in my hair but I didn't feel it necessary to reapply anytime soon.

I wouldn't apply my BKT right before my trip, though. I would go, have a great time and reapply when I returned home. :yep:

Thanks for the tips! I think I will take your advice and wait, but I was SO looking forward to doing my second bkt.:yep:
