I bought my Biotin from GNC as well. I bought the 2500 mcg bottle, and take 2 a day. I believe that equals 5 mg of Biotin a day.... plus whatever smaller amounts are in my hair vitamins. So yeah, lol, Im getting a lot of Biotin! :)

thanks! how long have you been taking it and do u find it beneficial?

I just added the Biotin to my regimen about 2 weeks ago..... I was prompted by another thread (I believe it was CandyC?) and she was talking about how she was taking 5 mg of Puritan's Pride Biotin and experiencing amazing growth. Prior to that the only Biotin i was getting was via my hair vitamins....but after that post, i headed to GNC pronto to step up my Biotin game!

So dont really know if its made much of a difference yet..... Ill keep you posted!

I use 5mg of Biotin a day. I used the Vitamine Shoppe brand. I love the fact that I only have to take 1 small pill to get in my daily dose of Biotin.

Yeah, thats hella sweet! I was looking for a 5 mg bottle of Biotin at GNC, but they only had the 2500 mcg..... so i have to take mine 2x in order to get the same amount. BOO!!!

However, I didnt wanna go to Vitamine Shop because i have this GNC rewards card that gives me a discount the first week of every month! So cheapness won out!

Since I ball on a budget I purchased my biotin from WalMart for $1.24 and each tab is worth 1000. I take 1 a day + prenatals.

Go ahead and gradually bump you your dosage. You will get better benefits from taking more. (that is if your are comfortable with taking more.)

Really? How much can you safely consume a day?

I know many ladies here take 5mg. That would be five pills a day for you.

I started out with 3mg a day. I wanted to go to 5mg but refused to take that many pills. Then I saw Vitamine Shoppe had 1 pill that was 5mg. I jumped all over that. (the pill is very small also. another plus!)

I will PM you a link to suggested dosages. (I have to find it in my favs.)

Biotin is generally considered non-toxic. There currently is no upper limit established. People have been given up to 200mg per day in studies with no symptoms of toxicity.

The amount you usually see in multivitamins (300mcg) is the amount set as an "adequate intake," meaning if you take at least that amount you should be good as far as avoiding biotin deficiency (a very rare occurrence).

ETA: Forgot to answer the question  I currently take 2mg because that's how much is in Skin Eternal Plus. I plan to increase it soon. I've taken 5mg per day in the past and didn't have any breakouts or anything (which is something many people have experienced, by the way).

I never had problems with breakouts from this either.

I purchased my biotin from GNC as well. I only use 600 mcg and take it once a day. I started taking it around April. I noticed that my hair is much thicker, and my nails are harder and grow quite fast.

Toxicity Symptoms
What are toxicity symptoms for biotin?

Reports of biotin toxicity have not surfaced in the research literature, despite the use of biotin over extended periods of time in doses as high as 60 milligrams per day. For this reason, in its 1998 recommendations for intake of B-complex vitamins, the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences chose not to set a tolerable upper limit (UL) for intake of biotin.

I also would highly recommend checking out the website for the Food and Nutrition Board. You can find all the Dietary Reference Intakes tables there and also all sorts of literature on how they came up with them. Invaluable if you're trying to put together a vitamin regimen and want a firm grasp on what the RDA's, UL's and AI's actually mean.

ETA: Link to National Academies Press where you can find the biotin info.
