Hey guys,

:ohwell:This seems like a dumb question but it's a real one. I have to buy relaxers for all of us in the house - my two stepdaughters, 19 and 12 have 4z hair that is thick and my bio daughter and I have 3c/4a hair that is fine and thin.

Money's a little :lachen:right now so I can only get one tub for all of us. Should I buy a mild and let it sit on their hair longer or buy a stronger and let it sit on our hair for less time.

I feel like I can answer my own question - buy the mild - but I don't want to underprocess their hair or overprocess ours.

Any hints, tips or comments like "dumb a$$ question, Apemay?

i would buy the mild. just leave it on the hair according to the person and the hair type.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking but I needed at least one co-signer.

I am so dependent upon this forum for my hair care decisions.

I guess that's okay because my hair is the healthiest it's been in a long time because of this forum.

Thanks again.

i agree with what the other lady said. . . i would totally buy the mild one. it is a lot easier to cause hella damage to both YOUR hair and THEIRS if u use the industrial strength crack.

What relaxer (brand) do you plan on purchasing?
How straight do you want the hair to be?
What brands have you used before and what was the processing time?

What relaxer (brand) do you plan on purchasing? Don't know yet. I was just searching to find out.
How straight do you want the hair to be? I do bone straight for my daughter, and younger stepdaughter, my older stepdaughter, idk.
What brands have you used before and what was the processing time? I usually use kids organic for them and an organic grownup one that I can't think of the name right now. I know by the box. It'll be my third relaxer application since October. I hadn't had a relaxer since 2001. I know how to apply, thanks to this board, but idk what types are best. I'm not doing lye right now so I'm off to Sally's, Ulta and the BSS.

I'm 14 weeks in and I'm breaking like crazy. I'm going through a little bit and I don't have the ability to concentrate on transitioning right now.

I know I'm going against the grain, but since you want bone straight, I'd go with Regular. You can always add an oil/conditioner to increase the processing time and/or decrease the strength of the relaxer. However, if you go with mild, there's a chance (based on your description) that someones hair may not straighten all the way... it may come out texlaxed.

OT: I dont have experience w/Organics relaxer, but if it works for you, I would change it. However, if you want to try something different... I've used and liked Botanicals and ORS (no lye) in the past.

HTHs!

I have to agree with Lotus; you can always break the strength of a relaxer with oils, conditioners, or other products; but with a mild, you can't increase the strength of the relaxer (I mean, unless you have a full at-home chemistry set, and understand the straightening catalyst elements and can accurately measure the pH balances...I'm just saying) I have thick, 3XYZ hair and I CANNOT use mild, I just can't. YOur stepdaughters may not process at all. Just a thought.

Thank you guys for all of your help. I wub you people.

Anywho, I went to the best BSS that I know of in our town and ended up getting 2 boxes of Optimum Care Anti Breakage Regular relaxers.

I'm all into ceramide technology and this line has oleo-ceramides. Don't know the difference between that and ceramide-3 technology but you can bet in about 15-30 minutes I will have read up on it in this form.

Off to clarify, protein treat and moisturize dc - FOUR happy nappy necks.:drunk:
Relaxers will happen next Saturday. I just didn't want to wait til the last minute.

Gracias, folks.

Well, that dilemma was solved or so I thought.

My 19 year old stepdaughter decided that she couldn't wait and took one of the relaxer boxes to a friend's and used the entire contents. :wallbash:

Now I have to wait until I get another $7.50 to relax my own head. I have to do my 11 year old and my 12 year old stepdaughter because they are looking a bit ratched.

My husband thought that I was overreacting but I'm thinking "who does she think she is to take my stuff somewhere else." I distinctly said that things were tight financially and that we were sharing because we only needed touchups. She couldn't wait three hours for us to get back from softball practice?:wallbash::wallbash: He's going to talk with her to see where her head was. She'll probably come back with some money anyway because her friend sells weed and dances.:look:

She got pregnant while in college with no prospects and a dead beat baby daddy.

She moved up here in our house - I don't have a problem helping - but being pregnant doesn't mean disabled. She can get a temp job to help cover costs or something. I can't tell if she's slow or lazy. I just met her.

I know this is off topic, but I really don't know how to deal with it.

Whew. Okay, I'm going to go do the girl's hair and that's that. I'll get over it. Now there's tension in my house and I ain't cool with that.

Great.:perplexed
