I want a nice, soft moisturized braidout for my 12 week plus post relaxer.
beside bee mine- what else products are out there for a good braid out.

Great thread! I just started my healthy hair care journey TODAY! I did my first ever braid out, and I plan on taking it out in the morning. I can't wait to see how it turns out in the morning and start trying different products

Normally I use a bit of moisturizer on dry hair with a setting lotion (lottabody, Motions herbal or Mizani) but the last braidout I did lasted wayyyyyy longer than the ones that involved setting lotion. It also felt much softer.

Experimenting after seeing the scarf method braidout tutorial, I decided to try using a cheapie conditioner in place of the setting lotions. I happened to have V05 Silky Experience lavender on hand so I used that with a bit of moisturizer and I was very pleasantly surprised.

a little bit of john freida frizz ease serum, qhemet burdock root moisturiser + shea butter & avocado oil on the ends

How do you guys sleep with your braid out? Do you just stuff it under a bonnet or re-braid? When you re-braid do you re-moisturize the whole entire length of the hair or just the ends?

Let us know how it turns out. I've just completed my first airdried braid up and will be taking it out in the morning. It better look good cus i got to go to work with whatever it looks like :perplexed.

Here are the results of my braid out. I just used products I had on hand (probably not the best). I washed my hair in 4 sections using Suave Tropical Coconut Shampoo, conditioned and braided each section, then rinsed the braids in 4 sections. I braided around 12-15 braids moisturizing with Palmers olive oil cream, then went to bed in a soft bonnet. When I woke up I unraveled all of the braids and put Carol's Daughter hair milk on the ends hoping they wouldn't get unruly.

It was very humid today, so that may be a factor as to why my hair is so frizzy, especially by my kitchen (I don't the correct term for this area yet). I'm not sure what I should do tonight with it or how long it will last.

I have mixed feelings toward it. I've been pretty much wearing my hair straight for the past 2 years. I just need to get over the adjustment period, and I'm sure I'll be fine.

Supercurl + Curly Meringue = Beautiful Braidouts

I have my hair braided right now - I'll post pics tomorrow evening. ETA: I might forget, so I attached a picture from my last braidout. I curl my ends up tight with a roller, so my braidout don't show my length. I care more about them being full. You can see the definition better in my avi. The attached pic was taken with my phone.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. It took me a bit of practice and a friend's help to learn how to do a braidout in a way that worked for me.

I have to re-braid nightly. I lightly moisturize the entire braid, either with Uncle Funky's Daughter's Supercurl or Extra Butter for more hold, but any moisturizer would probably work....

Sometimes, I don't re-do all the braids. I can put my hair in two or three braids, and tie the front down and get pretty much the same look. I put on a satin scarf and let the braids hang loose. Sometimes I use a bonnet as well, but that can cause the braids to bend.

I like your braid out pic- it looks very full and has deep waves. My braidouts have been coming out crispy and hard. I have just ordered Carol's Daughter hair butter and hair balm. When it arrives I plan to try out my braidout using these products. If it doesn't work, I will try some of the products that you ladies mentioned.

Does the setting lotion dry out your hair though

Settion Lotion might dry out some people's hair but not mine. I start with a good foundation of well conditioned hair using 'the relaxer method' to apply a moisturizing deep treatment.

Also, people are wondering about how to maintain a braid out...I show you how I maintain my braid outs for 2 weeks at a time (FAQs video). It doesn't involve rebraiding. Quite frankly, I'd just find a braided hair style and keep my hair in such if I had to rebraid every night. I thought braidouts were supposed to be low manipulation hair styles. Rebraiding every night doesn't seem to be low manipulation to me.
