I can't spend more than about 60 dollars and that's pushing it. I've read a bunch of flat iron threads and am getting confused. Here's what I need ladies:

Smaller plates
Variable heat
Preferably not scary (as in um...well just not scary:nono:)
Won't singe my hair right off.
Doesn't have to be a fancy brand, I have access to Sally's, Rite Ait, Walgreens, Target, occasionally Walmart. And am open to shopping online.

Do your worst ladies. I think I am ready for the occasional flat iron.

lol,,well i would suggest a small plate iron 1 inch or smaller ,, 1 inch should be fine,, i have longer hair and use it,, i like the handling of a smaller iron,, for that price, hmmm have u checked folica?

How about you save a little bit more money and invest in a sedu? i too went to Sallys and got a cheaper flatiron. Burnt-looking smoking plates and burnt hair later I got fed up and got a sedu. I didn't wanna pay that much money either but when i added up all the cheaper flatirons from the past, it came up to a way bigger amount than the sedu. Think about it.

I have to agree with Caribeandiva, the Sedu is an investment but well worth it. I believe that others have gotten great results with FHI and Solia as well. I recieved an email from Folicia and they currently have 1 week sale with free shipping on all purchases and the Sedu 1" is $89.95.

The 1" FHI original is going for $54.99.

I haven't tried this iron myself, but I've seen that a few ladies here use it.

I also recommend the solia, I have had mine for almost 4 years. The cheaper irons don't last long or perform as well in my opinion.

I have a $30 ceramic Revlon one that works good. It gets my natural hair straight so it should work for relaxed hair. I got it at Target but CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, etc should also sell it.

I just posted something similar the other week. I know about not having a lot of money. I had less then you so spend on a FI.

In my post the majoirity suggested Conrair Cermanic FI from Walmart. I got it and so far I have to say that it seems to do the job. It is 3/4 inch and I have short hair as well. My hair is straight and I am happy so far.

I agree! You really don't need to buy the name brand irons.

Also, on ebay there is a really nice iron that just JUST like my expensive irons. I bought one as a girl. It is the SCP iron. If you check those out make sure you get one with a temp control. I got one for my mom for $20 includign shipping and it came with a sample of CHI Silk infusions. it is a really nice iron and just as good as my FHI and better than my Revlon one I used to own. But, I agree with bmore, the Revlon ceramic one does the job, too!.

Yeah, it hasn't steered me wrong. I've had it for quite a while now. It was worth the $$, especially since I don't wear straight hair often. I use it on setting 10 if I'm initially straightening my natural hair. On 5, if it's already straight but I'm curling it or touching up a section. When I was relaxed I always used it on 5. I think it goes all the way up to 25 or 30. Before that I had a cheap $15 Conair ceramic one but I gave it to my mom. It worked on my relaxed hair but didn't get hot enough for weaves. And probably won't get not enough for my natural hair now.

I agree with HoneyDew about checking ebay too. Ebay usually has good finds for anything.

Thank you very much ladies you've been really helpful.

I'm really stuck between wanting to save up for the fancy one or finding a slightly cheaper one.

You ladies are made of WIN!
