I've used The classic Denman brushes with Hercules Sagemann combs for years and I recently started using the Tangle Teezer for curly and coily hair (purple one).

I really liked the way it seemed to detangle my hair very quickly and effortlessly, I don't see a lot of hair in the brush when I detangle, but I've noticed that my ends are feeling really rough.

I've been using the brush for a couple of months, I always detangle with conditioner or something that gives me great slip.

What I'd like to find out is, if anyone has had any positive or negative experiences with any of the brushes in the poll, or any others that are not listed. I've stopped using the tangle teezer, which I loved for defining my curls, but I think I need to find a new brush.

I absolutely love the Olivia Garden curly hair brush. It is my current favorite.

The 3B-4C brush is my favorite since the bristles are firm and glide through thick sections without breakage. The teal and red brushes also work fantastically in my hair, although they are made for wavy and curly hair types, while the purple targets coily hair.

I have tried every bush on that poll except the pattern (pattern isn't bad, but they rebrand a lot of stuff we used years ago in ways that aren't as good as the originals). Anyhoo, my favorite detangling brushes in this order are

  1. Olivia Garden curly hair brush
  2. Felicia Leatherwood detangling brush
  3. Denman 38p
  4. Kazmalaje paddle comb
  5. Curlkeeper Flexi Brush/Fhi Unbrush. They work the same. I don't know which one came out first but I used Curl Keeper before the Unbrush
  6. Tangle teezer thick and curly with or without the handle

There are so many good detangle options nowadays. I literally believe they are all great when used correctly, but I must tailor each tool to my hair for the best results. I would never use my Tangle Teezers the way I use my Oliva Garden Cully Hair brushes. You really can tailor the brush you like the design that aligns with they way you like to style. My OG Hairsense bone combs are my favorite detangling combs.

Thank you for the detailed response, that was very insightful. That a good point you made about tailoring the brush, I was using the tangle teezer the same way I used the denman, definitely food for thought. I may revisit the tangle teezer.

The Felicia Leatherman is very popular, I've seen many faithful users state that they now prefer the unbrush. The unbrush is currently haf price on one of the websites I purchase from. I've seen the Olivia Garden brush, but never seen any reviews on it.

I fund it interesting that the tangle teezer is the lowest of your preferences. I actually have the Denman 38,.but it's currently packed away, I may need to dig it out.

So I was just checking out the Olivia Garden brush. It's really weird but they seem to just have different colours and shapes over here. I noticed that the link that @Lylddlebit posted, it actually says 3b to 4a on the brush, no of the finger comb brushes in the UK have this, and all the descriptions are generic, they don't commit to any hair types.

I've attached pics of the US and the UK versions, they are not even the same colour nor do the bristles look the same. Ms Olivia is doing us dirty in the UK.

ETA: I've emailed their customer service department, hopefully they can either point me in the right direction, or give me an explanation as to why it's not available over here.

HI there. Those are actually two different brushes. The finger brush has natural and/or nylon bristles and some ball tips. Those were good prototypes, but I am not a big fan of brushes with ball tips. The variations of the curly hair brushs are all plastic with has tapered tips the handle has a pick that can be flipped for parting(cough and hair scratching lol) hair pick that attaches to the bottom of the handle. The differences are small but impactful.

The grey stub in the handle of the CurlyHair brushes can be pulled out flipped upside down and re-instered to ehlp with parting. Such a small feature that I use all the time...here is an example of what I am talking about

They are similar detangle but I prefer their curly hair brushes to the finger and galaxy brushes. The curlyhair brush is is the upgrade.

Curly Hair Brush

Fingerbrush

The finger brush is good but the CulyHair brush is perfection on my hair.

Yes I am very mindful about the way I detangle. I use combs a brushes to work tangles down and when I feel resistance I pull the toolk out remove the tangle with my hands and go back to the tool. This prevents breakage. I will send you an example

I voted: Denman

Have not heard of the Unbrush or the OG. *off to look those up*:look:...:brainy:

ETA: :goodpost: Nice Thread

I wanted to clarify what I meant by "OG Hairsense." I was referring to Hairsense combs, which are an old-school favorite of mine – "OG/Original Gangsta" is a term of endearment for this brand I've loved since the early days of my haircare journey.

I learned about Hairsense around 2005. Their inventory is limited now because their manufacturer went out of business during COVID, but you can still find some items on eBay and occasionally on their main site. While some people had mixed experiences, my collection has been consistently high quality, though I did get a bad batch once(2 or 3 combs with jagged edges that I was able to fix), which is unusual.

Charlene combs make good alternates

I actually thought that T was referring to Olivia Garden when she said OG, I completely missed that.

On a side, the first time I looked up Olivia Garden brushes, I wasn't looking into her ceramic roller brushes, yeah.... They were not cheap, about £125+ for a set of 3 or 4

Love this thread!

I am so in love with the UNbrush Plus. I don't even have the words.

-------

Edit to add: I have never lost so little hair nor detangled SO QUICKLY. I'll compare to the Olivia Garden Curlyhair Brush and then purchase 2-3 of whichever performs best on my hair. I just no longer trust companies to not go out of business.

-------

Thank you for mentioning the OG Curlyhair Brush, @Lylddlebit. Do you think it's better than the UNbrush Plus? I can't even imagine that! Lol.

Oliva Garden does start with OG lol. I have to keep it in mind when I use 'OG' other ways. I do prefer the Olivia Garden Curly Hair brush to the unbrush.

@Lylddlebit, thanks for putting Kazmalege paddle comb on here, because I was considering whether to purchase, but never pulled the trigger.
Also, I didn't realize that the Curlkeeper and FHI were different brands, but Unbrush is firmly is in the lead. Keep em coming ladies, this thread is great!

Awwww, maaaayuuuuunnn.

Now I'm going to have to try it. Boooooo! I'm trying not to spend on hair!!! Lol.

Thank you, again.
That's one thing about this board, it will have you buying things that you didn't know you needed or wanted :giggle:

I didn't realise there was an unbrush +, I think I'd like to try both of them along with a couple of the Olivia Garden curly hair brushes.
