I was so about to give up on my hair this past week. My ends feel so hard & look so much thinner than my new hair that is growing in now. I couldn't figure out why they were looking like that, especially when I've been avoiding heat & doing nothing but braid-outs. Then I remembered that several months ago, I had a ton of breakage because I was washing my hair several times a week in hard water, and not even realizing that the water was damaging my hair. My hair became brittle & thinned out, but still appeared thick because I have a lot of hair. So now I realize that it wasn't something that happended recently to cause my ends to break off, it's just that my hair is growing in healthier, making to old hair look like crap. Even the gray hair is sparkly & white near the roots, but yellow & dull towards the ends. So now I've decided to keep a hair journal--just jotting down things several times a week. I never realized what they were for until now.

I think keeping a hair journal is an excellent idea. This will help me to know what months my hair sheds, when my hair is in its growth cycle and dormant stages and what products work the best. Thanks for this tip.

I've been keeping a hair journal for a little over a year now, and it has REALLY helped me to figure out which products work the best for me!!

Also, it's amazing to read back and see how much more satisfied I am with my hair nowadays as opposed to when I first started keeping the journal.

It has also helped in that I can look back and see exactly what products I used when my hair came out better than usual... or what I used when it didn't come out as good as usual!

I'm addicted to "hair journaling" now!!

I have one too! It keeps me updated on which products Ive tried, how I liked them, I have my pics and dates of my BC and thereafter, and in the back, I have pics of hairstyles that I cut from mags that I would like to try in the future

I pitched mine late winter in a fit of rage at the size of the shed hair balls taped into each entry. The hair journal was a good idea except for the retained hairballs.

I'm keen to start one, I did want my husband to take a picture tonight, but he is asleep! argh! men! lol, where do you guys keep yours?

i jus write in my regular journal. i have good memory though so i don't need it - it's just there to reinforce what i'm going through in my mind so that i really *get* it. also, participating in online forums like these helps us all to *get* things quicker than going it alone.

I bought a hardcover book with 150 blank pages from the dollar store. I just paste my pics from my pc and write about my products, etc.

LOL, I thought you kept a journal online!! That you! Well that is *very* handy, an american friend of mine sent me a lovely journal last week, I'll start it tomorrow.

They have some cute little blank books at the dollar store. I plan to just buy one of those, too--nothing fancy.

I have a hair journal and I love going back and looking at the old entries and old products I use or used to use. You can follow so mny things this way like tracking progress, date of relaxers and trims, product reviews, post from the board so you won't have to go through fifty searching trying to find a particular topic and so on and so forth. It is like my hair bible. I am always refering back to it for some of everything.

I have a paper journal and an online journal.

I keep one too and it's great encouragement - I use Excel and have different spreadsheets for my hair updates and length charts. It sounds strange, but I make grocery lists in Excel too so go figure. And I oonly joined Fotki today to start my picture album, so that will be the photo component of my journal.
