I have been transitioning for only about 10 weeks and I have EL hair in the back, chin length in the front. I have been wearing weaves because I was not comfortable with the way my short damaged straight relaxed hair looked. I am thinking about just cutting it ALL off and am aware I will basically have a short cut like a fade/caesar. I am up right now thinking about just cutting it all off! I was originally thinking about transitioning for 12-18 months but I am just SO sick of wearing weaves/wigs. I want to be able to wear my OWN hair out without feeling insecure. I am too impatient to wait so long and having to hide my hair anyway because it's so damaged. I want to watch my fro as it grows and give it TLC. I feel like I can't do that when im in a weave. I can't wash as I please, I have to worry about blending and making them look real. I want liberation!

Please give me some words of wisdom ladies. I am losing it. Is it worth cutting it all off and starting fresh? What'll my friends/family think?? What will I think?? Can anyone who has BC'd their hair without really transitioning show me some pics/tips?

Thanks so much you guys!

Only you know when you're ready to BC. No one can tell you when to do it. If you're ready, go for it. In my experience, anticipation got the best of me and I bc'd at 5 months post. I wasn't prepared for short cut so I spent the next few months in and out of kinky twists. On the other hand, it did give me practice time to get to know my hair. It was a process accepting my shrinkage, though. Again, this is my experience and you should follow your own desires. Just make sure you're ok with it either way.

I am a very anti-BC person because I hated it when I did it at 1 year post relaxer. My hair was a lot shorter than i had imagined and I felt very unattractive.

I wouldn't focus about what anyone else would have to say about it, if they don't like it, well that is their problem. Do what makes YOU feel comfortable, if you want to wear your own short hair, then do it.

My advise to myself would be to transition for at least 2 years, but then again I liked the transition and I didn't mind the two textures.. I was just bored one day and did it on a whim. If you are not sure, then wait.

This was me after i BC'd, thank the lord that it was long enough to put in a puff.

I BC'ed at 5 months post and I have enjoyed my journey ever since. It can be frustrating at times until you learn what works for you and your hair. I personally wouldn't cut all of your progress off. Unless it's damaged there's no need to honestly.

Everyone's journey will be different. I'm loving my hair and I know that won't be the same for others. At first I thought "Oh God..." then I slapped on some earrings and a little make up and rocked the stew out of my twa.

I didn't care what anyone else thought and I still don't. My mom and my sister were like," ooh... uhhhh.... :look: wow." But my mom kept playing in my twa telling me how pretty and soft it was. Then.... this past year, she had me do her BC. My sister's in the process of transitioning. You don't cut it for others, you do it for you. And as it gets bigger, longer, and more lush they'll either follow you, admire you for being brave then tell you that they couldn't do it, or they'll pick on you because they're ignorant or not brave enough to do it. Either way the only thing that matters is what YOU think and how you're going to view your journey.

I embraced mine with an open mind and lots of patience. I also had a few wigs just in case I got lazy (I can't braid or cornrow) AND I went and bought alot of hair candy. Whatever you decide, enjoy it. :yep:

Only you will know when a bc is right for you. But I bc'd after only transitioning for 5 months and I loved it. I think it was good for me because it helped me to learn and know my hair.

Wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.

I agree with all the ladies. At the end of the day, it is your hair, and only your decision. I big chopped after 6 and a half months. Though i planned on transitionig for a year. But I was obsessed with discovering what my natural curls looked like. I had no problems with transitioning, I just focused on treating my relaxed ends the same way I was treating my new growth, with tender loving care. And styling it the way I planned to style my natural hair(twist, bantus, etc.) I do not regret it. For me it was like why keep delaying the inevitable. If you truly want to embrace your natural self, by having natural hair, the sooner you start the better. If you keep it hidden away under braids and weaves, when you do decide to unleash it and you have gained a considerable amount of length, you"ll be at a loss as to how to care for it. And I know wearing natural hair is an adjustment to make when everyone around you has straight hair. But remember, its not just the hair that the makes a woman beautiful, its also the content of her character. Good luck on your journey!!

Agree with everyone about BC'ing when YOU are ready, but I really wish I had BC'ed sooner than I did, especially because I started off with short hair anyway due to the haircut I had. When my hair was short, I won't lie, I cried a couple of times about looking like a boy, but now I look back at my hair and am like, "Psh, that was cute!" I have gained so much knowledge while growing my hair out, and I am happy I did not have to deal with transitioning styles - I did wash n gos, and it took me a couple of minutes to do my hair when I had my TWA. It was SO easy. I was spoiled. Here are some pics -

Anyway, just make sure you are sure when you BC - a lot of women BC and are unhappy with their hair, and end up going back to the relaxer...and I'm like :nono: you just cut off all your hair for nothing!

And I might get stoned on LHCF for saying this...but it's just HAIR, it grows back!

I'm still transitioning (13 months post) cause I hate short hair on ME so I decided on a long transition. YOU need to do what is best for YOU like other posters have said, you should not be worried about what someone else thinks of your hair. Whatever you decide, we are here for you cuz :bighug:

@Ellepixie, why would you get stoned for saying it's just hair on LHCF :spank::spank:? It is really just hair and I aint afraid to say it :sekret:

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, dey gon' get you!

If you would be comfortable with a low cut and you're truly ready, I say go for it. If you would prefer a bit more hair maybe you can wait another two months.

If you really don't like it you can still wear your wigs.

Do some research and look at some YouTube videos and see where that leads you.

I was about 16 weeks post when I BC'd and its been about 1 1/2 months since I cut it. I'm so glad I did.

Here's a pic of my hair.

My laptop is out of commission so I don't have more pics. However I did a thread when I BC'd. I on my phone so I can't post the link.

I've cut my hair short so many times, it doesn't faze me. It depends on you and how you feel. Don't BC until you're ready. Some people have to have long hair to feel attractive. Some don't. In reality, we're here to support you. I know if I tried to transition for 12 months, I would have gone crazy. I hated blending the 2 textures and sucked at doing braid outs or twist outs. When I BCD, I felt free of extra work. I could wash n go or practice 2 strand twists. If my style looked raggedy all I had to do was wet it with water add gel and go. I had a hard time squeezing my transitioning hair into a style without needing heat. I even needed heat for a pony tail.

Thank you so much ladies! I will definitely give it more thought before doing such a drastic chop. I was thinking about doing it this weekend, I have been looking at pictures but i'll make sure i'm 10000% for this before chopping.

Thanks again!

i dunno i hated my bc because one,i am not good at styling and two, i couldnt get away with wash n going. so for quite some time i just looked a mess on a hot plate. they only way i could get it looking decent is if i put a crap load of gel on it which took forever to do and dry. i just didnt like it and i wasnt open to wearing fake hair at the time. i didnt mind then because i didnt care about my looks.

i wish i had the straightening skill i have now andi i would have never did my first bc when i did and would have probably not texturized months later and do another bc:lol:
