Basalm Shampoos - Do they dry out the hair

Does basalm shampoos dry out the hair. I have no idea what that means . They use it on my hair at the salon. they use honey and almond.. anybody knows?

I remember reading in No Lye by Tulani Kinard that you should avoid straight up balsam and protein shampoos because all they do is dry the hair out. They don't clean the hair well and weigh down the cuticle
