Bargin or not: Ultra Black Hair Growth II

I was around the corner at the local variety story and I picked up the UBHC kit for $2.99. The book, conditioner and dew. So what in the world do I actually have? I am going to read the book tonight.

Wow you got a bargain. The conditioner and dew are expensive on her website and I never knew there was a UBH kit floating around either.

Anyways the book is decent, if your a beginner. It's the same stuff on the forum, but I think we have more info. She also pushes her own products as the ONLY products to use. Ive never tried them, but I know a lot of people on here love them.

I have been natural for a good while, I just wanted to read the book to see if it was any good. 9 times out of 10 I am going to give the book away and it can't hurt to sample the products (They are full size). There were only 2 kits there and I actually picked up the book and ask how much and the clerk told me it was a whole kit. I will go back tomorrow and get the other kit. That is the same store is where I found the Salon Selective Loosely defined lotion for 50 cents. It looks like a hole in the wall but it has some good bargin.

BE CAREFUL with the conditioner and dew that comes in the kit. I bought one of these so-called kits from Ebay thinking it was a great bargain. The conditioner was old and not the same color as the one you get directly from Cathy herself. I even called Cathy's company because I was concerned about the conditioner's color and...they were suspicious and wanted to know where I got it...so I said I got it as gift..."a little white lie"...I should have stated the source because someone told me that I can get "rewards" for doing that {from Cathy's company} but I didn't. Anyway I contacted the Ebay seller and she said it came from an infomercial several years ago...and I've never known Cathy to have an infomercial. Needless, to say I took a gamble and used it anyway and it didn't take my hair out but I don't recommend anyone else doing that. From now on, I make sure to get it straight from the source no matter the cost of the product or shipping and handling...in my opinion you get what you pay for. The book from the kit was of some use though... since I had my own copy I sold it brand new on amazon.com for $10.

She says I can't recommend them because I haven't tried them. Personally, I want options and she doesn't seem to give you any direct advice. Some parts of the book helped though....until I joined this and realize she wasn't an innovator or anything.
Work with the product but check it out before using it.

Actually, her first book was written in 1987 and according to her there were no other books nor websites that contained the information she had written...I don't know how true that is...since I was a child in 1987 and hair wasn't the least of my worries and I wasn't searching websites nor reading books about it.

Thanks for the info. I knew that it couldn't be new product because it is a cast off store. I get little rinky dink items like air freshners and little kid stuff. I read the ingredients and it isn't much it could do to my hair except maybe leave a film or nothing at all. So it isn't a big deal,but I knew I have seen UBHG and the Howse name frequently on this sight.

Yeah, I guess we would have to say LHCF sounds like her book, b/c she was pretty much a pioneer- doing this while most of us were kids. Apparently the info. we take for granted now, protein, moisture balance, oils was pretty revolutionary when she put it all together in her system.

Well it sounds like you got 1 heck of a bargain. But BEWARE. I use her products and i have her book. I paid $12 for her book off amazon. I bought the large bottle of dew moisturizer for $18. and I got the creme moisturizer for about $20 and the deep conditioner for about $20 plus shipping and handling so you've gotten a very very good deal. As others have posted, if these products are very old I'd be scared to use them. Also she doesn't mention a 'kit' nowhere on her site, nor in her book, nor did she mention it when I met her at an expo and she was selling all of her products. So they could be bootleg. I can tell you that the dew is a yellowish color and smells like S-curl. and the creme conditioner should be white creme and really don't have a smell. U might want to open up the bottle (before u shake it up) and see if the contents have separated..which would mean that the product is really old. I bought her book before I joined lhcf and you are right, it was very informative to me because i was a newbie, but now that i'm on LCHF...there is soooo much more info on here than in her book. But she keeps me in 'keep it simple' mode, so that is one good thing that I got from her book. Also she basically has all her info on her website, so there's no need to get the book. She really was one of the pioneers in the hair truth/knowledge stuff but as you can see the market is now flooded so she really can't claim sh'es the 'only proven' system anymore. And as she will state in her book...her products are good but the product isnt what makes your hair grow...it's how u take care of it. She says her products has the appropriate amount of protein/moisture in it so that's why she recommend using it. Not cause it will grow your hair extra long. And another thing is her dew spray (which i love) is nothing more than a bottle of water with a few spoons full of glycerin and a lil olive oil. (it smell exaclty like S-curl) and we all know that s curl is considered a moisturizer. So when i run out...i'm making my own dew. But anyways, u've gotten a good bargain, i just hope those products are too old to use.
