Hey y'all. For the past 2 months i've been sleeping in one of these styles so that I can avoid using my flat iron. However, I kinda feel like sleeping this way leads to pulling/breakage. Even wrapping was causing my temples to thin out. Any thoughts/ideas?

BUMPING...

if you pull your hair too tight, i'm sure breakage will follow. however, i grew my hair extremely rapidly by twisting a portion after moisturizing nd coating with castor oil, then rolling that portion with satin covered foam rollers. in the mornings or any other time, i had no problem with breakage. i also was addicted to bantus, so they treated me just as nice. i used to twist my bantus too tight and the would hurt, but never pull out. i stopped doing them because i can get CRAZY with them and rolling the twists makes my hair look naturally wavy.

i always slept with a loose satin cap and mostly on my stomach so that i'd have no problem with my moisturizer drying. if i got tired of sleeping on my stomach, i have a very soft down pillow that helps a great deal.

i think the keys here are to not twist/braid/bantu too tightly and to moisturize sufficiently.

I secure them with the same clips used to hold rollers for roller sets. The mini duck bill clips is what I call them. :ohwell:
try the mini scrunchies.
you can get them from a bss in the kids hair accessory section.
you can soak them in an oil, like olive, and secure each bantu with a mini scrunchie...it only takes 1-2 turns of it to work. keep your used scrunchies in a baggie so they stay oiled and keep using them.

i used to also use the bendable satin-covered hair rollers...the white ones that your roll and twist the edges. those can be comfy, too.

i noticed more damage on my ends when i did rollersets and braidouts. i moisturized them to death and they still ended up see through. then i realized that i needed a good trim. i havent done them since though.
