This happened to me a while ago. After I got my relaxer I had a quarter size bald spot. Can anyone speculate what happened?

It's possible that the relaxer was left in too long amongst many other reasons. Some areas of the scalp/hair is more sensitive than others. Perhaps this was your weak area. I'm curious to know what type of relaxer was used, how long was it in your hair, was your scalp based, was a neutralizing shampoo used & was the relaxer completely washed out?

I'm not an expert, but this is what I came up with from a similar personal experience!

1. The relaxer was left in too long
2. Your scalp was not based
3. The relaxer was not washed out completely
4. A neutralizing shampoo was not used during the rinse out process
5. That particular area of the was weak or more sensitive

This is scary!

I can't say I got a bare bald spot. but I did get something pretty close (before I came the LHCF, I must say) when I relaxed a few days after coloring with one of those kits that have peroxide.

Maybe the relaxer was too strong. A couple of years ago, I got a chemical burn from a relaxer that was too strong. It was a tiny little bald pinkish spot right on my hairline. My hair did grow back in that spot.

Sorry I didn't have much time to write, because I was in a rush to get out of the house. My relaxer has always worked well for my hair, so I really don't think it was that. I use Soft and Beautiful no lye. I think I just had an ignorant beautician. Sorry, but she really made me mad! :swearing: When I confronted her daughter, she called her cell asap, but my beautician seemed so unaffected. My mom just hung up in her face, because she was talking to people at a party in the background. :kick:I would have been so worse, so it was good she talked to her. Her daughter seemed more concerned than she was. She based my hair, but not as much as needed. She's cheap so she probably didn't even use a neutralizing shampoo, AND that spot is my sensitive spot. She probably even left it on too long, because my hair is thick, so you know how stupid beauticians assume the longer time on your hair the better! It was horrible, but that bald spot caused me to research better things to do for my hair, and that's how I found this site. My hair is growing really slowly there. It looks like leg stubble even after five months, but at least it's growing. Some of my friends lost there whole back from a relaxer and it never grew back. I'm somewhat lucky I can cover mine with a headband if necessary. Out of a bad came a good. :ohwell::think::grin:

Oh Ok! If you're not allergic to sulfur then maybe you could try using BT. It's excellent for hair grow & thickening.

I know...but unfortunately, I don't have a credit card, and my mom is very iffy about getting things online. It took me months just to convince to get me a membership! :nono: I don't think it's happening.

This happened to me also at the side of my head next to my ear. I think what happened to me is that I had gotten a bump there and had kept scratching it, and that cause the hair to come back. Be very patient mine had grown back but I was lucky it was really small and not noticeable.

The samething happend to me the last time I let my mom do my touch-up. Thats why I went to the salon this go around. My spot sounds just like yours.

Has your's grown back yet?

WOW: same w/ me: it wasn't noticeble until now cuz you can see 2 different lengths: I don't kno if my scalp in that area was still a lil moist or something: cuz when I put it on: that area started to burn: usually if I sratch it burns & leaves a scab: but my hair broke off at the scalp>>>>>>>>its growing back: but since my hair is grew out thicker: the thinner ends in that spot is just break off at the demarcation line: so that short haired area has gotten bigger: i just gotta be patient till that whole area catches up

Strange? If this is happening, why wasn't anyone posting about this stuff? When I was lurking I was just begging for someone that had a similar experience so I could read about it and hopefully get some faith for my bald spot. It's nice to know I'm not alone, now.

Yup, but I didn't even notice it had fallen out, since it was so small. It was about a little less than the size of a dime. Maybe the reason why it grew back so fast is because I wasn't really that aware of it. Like a couple of months ago I was "wow, my hair is shorter over here....wait isn't that that spot that was burning when i got a perm???" :lachen:

The same is true for me too. I noticed my spot about a week or two after the relaxer. However my spot is still trying to grow back. Its been about 4 months since my incident and I just got really soft peach fuzz there. When I went to get my hair relaxed at the salon last Thursday, I made sure that she took extra care with that area...so far so good!!

No more home relaxers for me!! :lachen:

I notice one in my head a long time ago but my buttfly clip damage that spot then i turned righ around apply the relaxer in that spot:rolleyes::wallbash:

It's okay. I have faith that ours will grow back. Hopefully it doesn't take a year and a half for an inch, though. :lachen:Humor always helps in sad times. lol.

This has not happened to me in a while, actually. And I know why my hair broke off (it was not a bald spot). It was because of that coloring/tinting kit I called myself using. Since joining the board and texlaxing, I really have not had any problems like that.

you can get a GREEN DOT Credit card ,it's a pre-pay credit card at walgreens you pre-pay at the walgreens then use the credit account on line, I found it very helpful if you don't want to use a on going credit card that can be abused by the sellers.

Wow! I'm going to try and get that!
