i've been having horrible shedding (when i detangle) since i decided to be more texlaxed... since i cowash daily, and detangle each time, it amounts to a lot of shedding to me (i did, however, have the foresight to stop using the denman to detangle and switch to a wide tooth shower comb - but since i was still shedding a lot with the comb, i'm thinking that maybe that wasn't the culprit)... i can't find garlic shampoo in my area and i refused to pay so much for the alter ego stuff... and i tried henna and didn't particularly see the intended results so i haven't done it again...

so i've been using the hemp conditioner that dlewis mentioned (which, in and of itself, is an AWESOME conditioner).... yesterday, i used it, layered on some Aphogee 2 minute reconstructor and then put a little Aussie Moist in to aid in detangling... that mixture resulted in way fewer lost hairs during detangling... today, i repeated the mixture and loss even less.... it may be too soon to tell, but i think that this might be a keeper if it's going to curb the shedding like that...

my question is this - is this a balanced mixture?... am i leaning too far on the protein side??... i have yet to fully understand what's a protein and what isn't...

I read somewhere, and I am finding it to be true for me, that the protein/moisture balance game is an ongoing ritual. If your hair responds, keep using what is working at the time. Products with proteins would say things like, "wheat protein, silk protein, milk protein, amino acids, etc."

Hopefully you will get some more input from ladies who have more experience/knowledge.

right, I'm not very knowledgable in this dept but what I do is rotate between a moisturizing conditioner and light protein treatment every 3 days and I get no breakage and only a little shedding that is in my comb... very little....the hair experts should be coming in shortly..did you read sistaslick thread about the moisture/protein balance. I'll find it...brb:)

I'm still learning myself about this IMPORTANT part of growing my hair:)

I'm having a similar problem, my hair is shedding/breaking. I've been using the elasta QP breakage control serum, and I see dramatic results from that, but that is were my confusion comes in. I've been reading the post here that you are suppose to do a moisturizing conditioning treatment after protein but are you still suppose to do this if your hair is lacking protein, or do I need to use a stronger protein treatment. Also with hair that is lacking the protein are you suppose to still moisturize daily.:perplexed
