Any naturals having to deal with lots of split ends or rough ends from wearing too many puffs...or having them dry out.

I've noticed more split ends. I've been wearing a "puff" for about a 6 weeks and my ends are looking terrible when I comb my hair out. I bought some sta-so-fro moisture spray. It helps with the drying out. It might be time for a style change. -And deep conditoning!

haha...well good luck to yall, I'm @ USC (Univ. South Carolina), so we won't be playing yall..lol

Yea, I had horrible ends the other day, I deep conditioned my hair and had to trim the ends badly!! Now I'm wearing twists...I think i'm going be to wearing these and refreshing them every so often

I'm not natural, but just wanted to say that it may not the puff it self but this winter weather. I think keeping the ends tucked in must be the best thing for the winter because, my cousin is natural and I do her hair regularly. She never had split ends so bad like last week, they were like 1/2 to 1 in long some had more than one split on the end of the strand, and I just clipped her ends a month or so before that. It was mainly the bottom of her hair, so I guess the winter weather is truly harsh, moisture, moisture and protect those ends.

Okay, I'm not natural but this came to me: what if your ends really aren't bad? What if it's just that they aren't smooth? I know the more new growth I have the less smooth and nice my ends look because my hair isn't laying nicely on top of itself. Does that make sense?

Maybe you could try a straight style every once in a while to see how your ends really look.

I think that if you wear a lot of puffs (like I do) you do have to do more to maintain the ends, especially if you are in cooler weather. When I straightened my hair recently, my ends were in terrible shape and I was trimming all along. I had to chop 1-2 inches in some spots. I would do deep conditioning treatments every week but they weren't enough. Now I'm going to try to wear twists and other styles more often. I also used to detangle only once a week therefore I'm starting a new routine of detangling every 2-3days when i CW if I'm wearing my hair out and also putting castor oil on my ends every other night before bed and doing a hot castor oil treatment every week along with my deep conditioning.

Your hair is so pretty!

Question: How do you make your puff? Do you comb/pick the puff part to make it fluffy? If so, that could be the source of the problem. I wear puffs a lot but I never comb the ends or pick them out, which is why mine is always a coily/curly puff. That's also why it's never particularly round  But it's easier on your ends.

I was gonna suggest this too..I also find that air dried ends are also kinds crispy and sem unhealthy until you blow your ends perfectly straight ad see elsewise. I would also suffest not using a pick or comb all the time to comb your puff out have you tried a curly puff at all?

thanks...I usually comb/pick my puffs out......I do this often because i like how big it gets..lol When I don't comb it out, it shrinks a whole lot and gets frizzy. I have retired the puff for now and have returned to twists until the weather gets better.
