Avoiding the flat iron...

I'm a 3b/c relaxed head who washes 2x per week. I rollerset, sit under the dryer until dry (1 hour on high, 1/2 on med, 1/2 on cool). I use 2" mesh curlers. Then I take each curl out and use the blowdryer to take the curl out (just 1 or 2 passes) then I Maxiglide, then wrap & go to bed (Because by that time I'm TIRED!). Looks great and lasts until the next wash BUT:

I've been noticing breakage, and I know it's the heat. How can I give up the flatiron and still have straight hair that doesn't revert? Or should I NOt use the blowdryer? Should I cut down on drying time? (I don't think I can, because my hair is APL length and won't be dry-if I try to blowdry or flat iron non-dry hair, well...snap crackle and no hair will be left, y'know?)

MaCherieAmor- I'm looking at you on this one, b/c we seem to have similar routines...

Mil Gracias!

Why do you blowdry and flatiron? It seems to be a lot of heat to me. Is it that the rollerset isn't straight enough? Hmm, I wish I had some suggestions but I can only think to try to eliminate a few of the steps that use heat.

So after you dry, why don't you wrap your hair and sit under the dryer for about 10 minutes? You know a rollerwrap... I am a heat freak and that is too much for me...

HAHHA:)

I think its the blowdryer. I used to pass it thru my hair too (really quickly) but its just tooo much heat.

I try to just blow out the roots, wrap and sit back under the dryer and that work pretty well but my hair is still a little helmuty:lol:

If I really want it straight, I use the flat iron on a low setting with a lite moisturizer to protect it from heat. It works pretty well:)

Sounds like a plan! I'm getting ready to take the rollers out right now. Will give it a shot.

Thanks! I'm going to take the rollers out, wrap it, then sit under the dryer for about 10 minutes.
