Hey,

I was doing some reading up on Aveda Color Processes and they're supposed to be 97% natural and very safe on the hair. I'm very interested and I want to know who on the LHCF has got this done. Here are my questions:

  • What did you get done?
  • When did you get it done?
  • How much did it costs (ballparks are fine)?
  • Is your hair dry, breaking or less soft than usual? Please explain.
  • Do you have to care for your hair any differently?
  • When did the color wash out (or did it)?
Thanks Ladies

Oooh, ooh, me! I have Aveda highlights! :yep:

I just did a post on them. They are MUCH better than any other brand I've ever had. I had some serious damage from a Mastercuts bleached blonde job. The highlights literally snapped off in several places throughout my head. :wallbash:

I switched to a Dillard's/Aveda salon about a year ago. She nurtured my hair back to health, and I was still able to maintain my highlights. She darkened them so that I wouldn't have to get TU's so often. A year later, my hair is now thriving, with both a relaxer and the highlights (my Avi shows my hair with the Aveda highlights). I highly recommend Aveda color! I have found it to be much more gentle than any other brand.

I recently started DCing with heat, and that makes a very noticeable difference. I do not use direct heat myself. My stylist wraps and flat irons every 8 weeks or so when I get my TU, so that I can gauge my hair growth. To style, I use roller sets and Sylver's scarf method.

I wash 2x a week - using the scarf method mid-week and a full head rollerset at the end of the week.

I make sure that I stay moisturized, using mainly Aveda products. I don't like heavy protein (too drying), so I use the DR line which is a good balance of protein and moisture.

They are pricier, but because color is potentially damaging, I think the extra cost is worth it.

Boy I got so excited when I saw that someone posted to this thread! And the funny thing is that I was just reading another thread and admiring the color in your hair and the thickness of your hair. It's very pretty!!!

Thank you so much for this review. I would love to go get Aveda highlights sometime this year. I bought colorshines (gold) from roundbrush hair and I hope to get something similar to the color that you have (either through the colorshines or the Aveda color treatment).

And I'm so glad that you're blessed and highly favored because I am too!

If anyone from Chicago reads this who has gotten the highlights at any Aveda salon in the Chi-town area, please let me know who hooked you up cuz I'd love to visit them!!

Hi joyful,

I'm glad my review helped you. :drunk: I am originally from Chicago too! My sister lives there now and goes to an Aveda salon for her brows and other spa services. She does not have a color though and is all natural. Nevertheless, she loves the salon. I will get the name from her and post it for you.

Thank you! You are so helpful and I am so grateful for this information! I am so excited :yep: and I can't wait to get the highlights.

Hi joyful,

My sis goes to Michael Anthony's on North Avenue. She is natural and ONLY goes for a brow wax. You may want to call first and find out if anyone there is experienced with black hair. If you decide to get the highlights, please post pics!! Good luck!

  • What did you get done? Dye & Highlights
  • When did you get it done? Starting in the Spring of this Year.
  • How much did it costs (ballparks are fine)? Dye $50/Highlights $90
  • Is your hair dry, breaking or less soft than usual? Please explain. My hair is usually a little dry the first couple of days, a good deep conditioner will take the dryness away.
  • Do you have to care for your hair any differently? Not really.
  • When did the color wash out (or did it)? Color hasn't washed out.
Aveda is the only hair color that I'll use from now on, I'm hooked. My hair is natural, and I haven't experienced any problems.

Gharp thanks for your review! I agree with you - I'm hooked on Aveda color and will not look back.

I forgot to say that my highlights are a steal - they are only $60!!! Including the wash and style!!! Our Dillard's salon closed down here and I just went to a regular Aveda concept salon - and they quoted me a price of $115!!!! Boy, have I been spoiled with Dillard's prices! :wallbash:
