As a follow-up from my 'problem' from the tight braids (I'll make a new thread on that), I wanted to thoroughly wash my hair and scalp so I can apply some jojoba and essential tea tree oil on the infected area at the nape. I decided to use the shampoo that a family member passed down (don't know why) & WOW!

Aveda damage remedy did NOT strip my hair ONE BIT. Admitedly, I had pre-pooed (and not for long or under a hair dryer- just enough for me to detangle my fro which had shrunk to below my ears.) with coconut oil. I didn't even DC after I was so pleased.

I attributed the positive result to the mild sufactant used in this product which was #6 down on the ingredients list 'disodium coco glucoside citrate.' http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ingredient.php?ingred06=702135

This will be one of the ingredients I look for in shampoos going forward. Laureth 4 and 23 are also included but way down at the bottom. Anything harsher than this is a no-go for me. It does however contain dimethicone and polyquat-10. I'm mentioning the quats only because some quats aren't easily removed from the hair but can't remember which ones and if you care about that stuff, FYI.

Any other reviews for this product?

BTW, I'm a co-washer and only use 'poo to clarify a few times a year. So finding a poo that works for me is BIG!

I haven't used the shampoo, but if it's anything like the IRT condish, i'll bet it's amazing!!

I have the samples...so now I MUST try it out.

I bought into the Dry Remedy mess and had brick-like hardness pretty darn quickly. :-(

I use the ENTIRE Damage Remedy line - the shampoo, conditioner, the mask, and the leave-in. My hair loves these products. The shampoo is just as moisturizing as a moisturizing shampoo, but it can lead to protein build-up over time. It's good to alternate it with the Aveda Dry Remedy line or another moisturizing shampoo.

Other Aveda products that I use and love are the Dry Remedy Shampoo and Mask (not the conditioner), the Brilliant Anti-Humectant pomade, the Brilliant hairspray, Glossifier, and Shine Prep Smoother. I have used Scalp Benefits and the Rosemary lines, but I don't care for them.

I haven't used any of the Aveda Shampoo. Thanks for posting this. This really makes me want to try. I love the Damage Remedy Conditioner and the Dry Remedy as well. I just think Aveda products are generally well made.

I've been using the Damage Remedy shampoo and intensive conditioner and really like them both. The shampoo doesn't dryout my hair and I use the mask as a base for my Cathy Howse DC. I only thing I don't like is the price. The shampoo should last me awhile but the conditioner is going pretty quickly so I alternate using Aphogee 2 minute.

Just passing on a word of caution:

I LOVE Aveda products. But I had an interesting conversation with an AA sales person who talked about how frequently AA get sold on the Dry Remedy line. She and another AA sales person found that few could do bought Dry Remedy and Damage Remedy - it was more like either or. If you liked Damage Remedy, it was likely that Dry Rem wouldn't work for you. The reverse also held true (according to them).

So I suggest y'all try to get samples OR trial sizes first, if you can. they have a GREAT return policy, but this can help you save a bit of money because you probably will see quickly whether it works for you or not.

What's the Cathy Howse DC method and is the DC for Damage Remedy a protein?
Look up the Cathy Howse Challenge on this site. Basically you wash and DC every three days. Some people in the challenge are buying her conditioner while others like me are following her recipe. Aveda DR is a protein restructurizing conditioner-- with a balance of protein & moisture. Following the Cathy Howse recipe, I mix a restructuring DC with EVOO, EVCO and peppermint.

I bought the sample size of the shampoo and conditioner and I like it alot. I will most definately invest in the regular size soon.

I can also testify to the Aveda DR shampoo! It is amazing and I only use the shampoo too! The con is not that great to me tho. The shampoo actually makes you want to only use just it and not the con. The con to me did nothing for me as far as the feel.

It's like the shampoo should've been the con and the con should've been the shampoo!

I love aveda, I have not tried this shampoo, it may be my next shampoo purchase. Right now from aveda I use the dry remedy shampoo, dry remedy/damage remedy mask, and for styling I use the brilliant spray, the DR leave in (you have to try this), and the antihumectant (some times the humectant) pomade. Also I just started using the universal style creme. It has glycerin in it and is a moisturize that doesn't build up.
