I am from the deep south were presses are greasy and icky so I never got one besides when i flat-ironed it myself so when i went to Cali and I could not resist the urge to get a press like my friends which has as much body as as a perm! I was surprised by my length but now i at a loss at what to do next?

-How often should i press? I am sooo afraid of damaging my hair!

- What are your fave products?

- Do you use a hot comb or flat iron and if so which flat iron brand works best for you?

I am too afraid of damaging my hair to wear it pressed all the time at this point, or at least until i am informed enough about to care for it.

I have learned so much at this site and all of you ladies who are so well informed, thanks in advance for you help!!!

Also, i tried to search for helpful threads but if there are some that you think would be helpful that maybe i overlooked, let me know!

Check out Pinkskate's fotki for her reggie she flat irons/presses regularly and still has fab hair:yep: HTH

I have flat ironed up to 2/3 times a month and my hair is fine. Its all about taking preventive steps before hand.

Got2b smooth operator leave in and Chi silk infusion(sometimes I mix it with Redken heat glide for the days when its very humid because its heavier.I love Kenra for Deep conditing and Paul mitchell shampoo 3 for clarifying/chelating.

I have tried pressing combs, maxiglide, miniglide, solia and all types of cheap irons but I think chi is the best by far.

You'll be fine.Try to smooth(try roller sets or banding/braiding) and prep the hair as much as possible before hand and use a nice heat protecting serum. Also make sure you Deep Condition, preferably with heat.

Chi silk infusions is used as a heat protectant. I also use the Chi flat iron. Really when I straighten, I use all CHI (Shampoo, Thermal conditioner and silk infusions).

oh yes, stylists in cali know how to press hair. i am seriously thinking about going natural because of this. the last time i got my hair pressed it looked just like a retouch.

Honesty,
What about trying the Mizani Thermasmooth system. I haven't tried it myself, but mostly everyone has given it rave reviews. I was thinking about trying it myself. I think someone on here is selling samples if you want to try it before you by the full size bottles.

I got my hair pressed for the first time in AGES two weeks ago and I'm going to get it pressed again tomorrow.

I am completely natural (I believe I am type 4B).

She washed and deep conditions my hair and then used just a very little bit of Apex pressing oil and uses a flat iron (the kind you plug in) after blow drying my hair dry.

She only uses a stove pressing iron on the edges of my hair lightly to get it straight.

I will be watching my hair very closely this summer to see how it holds up.
