Okay, I've figured out that braids are going to be my signature style for the summer

, BUT, I can't figure out this mango butter thing.

(For reference purposes, I bought mine from http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/ .) I tried mixing it with some olive oil, but it still tends to grit up. As you can tell from my pix, http://public.fotki.com/SunshineCoils/2004/home_spun_hair/mango_butter_braidi/
my hair is still moisturized from it, but not without a whole lot of rubbing the butter inbetween my hands before applying it to my hair. All suggestions on how to "loosen up" this butter even further are welcome.

Once I get some more butters I'm gonna try whipping it to make the butter more creamy. Just a suggestion.

Sounds like a good idea.

I can't wait until I get home so I can play around with my mama's mixer and other kitchen utensils.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: ATTENTION: Calling All Hair Butter Mixing Quee

girl im still laughin at that smooshed picture

girl you gotta throw that stuff back in the pan and add more (alot) more oil. that almost looks the same as how it comes...you gotta be heavy handed with the oil.

Re: ATTENTION: Calling All Hair Butter Mixing Quee

Ooooooohhh, okay, okay. I'll throw it back in my hot pot. I knew something was missing.

I'm mad that you're up here laughing at me.

ETA: Oh yeah, do you think the hazelnut oil will do? It kinda stinks, but it's a pretty thick oil. Almost as thick as olive oil.

[/ QUOTE ] lol sorry , but that smooshed pic was too cute and too funny to me

any oil should do, ive never tried hazelnut oil though, but as long as its oil, it should add softness to the butter
smile.gif
just use plenty!!

Re: ATTENTION: Calling All Hair Butter Mixing Quee

LOL!! you are too cute!

they're right. you should definitely add more oil. i would avoid all stinky ones though. no reason in the world to walk around smellin...
look.gif

what kind of braids will you be wearing? if it's not cornrows, i would skip the butter altogether. even with a ton of oil, i think it would cause unnecessary buildup. i'd just use the oils...

hehehehehe . . . I felt kinda goofy for taking a pic of my smooshed mango butter, but I needed some help for real. I think I'll wait till I get home and use up my parents' olive oil, no sense in me going outta pocket when I'll be home this time next week.
laugh.gif
I feel ya, I don't wanna go around with my head stinkin' from my mango butter mixture.

When I said I'd be sporting braids, I just meant that I'd be braiding up my hair everyday or every other day in something simple. No synthetic/weaved hair. For whatever reason, my skin breaks out in hives when I put weaves in, so it's the old skool, pigtail type braids for me.
smile.gif
I'm gonna go light on the butters though. I'm so sick of touching my hair and seeing enough oil come off on my fingers to fry food with.
