Hi Ladies,

I am officially a member of several challenges all of them surrounding hiding hair or wearing it curly...I have a wonderful friend/kitchentician Missjae09:grin: who helps me with my PS...

My goal is to wear the PS for a week and then wear the twistout or braidout for a few to several days and then finish off the week with a wash and go. That has not been happening...The last two times when I took my hair out from the flat twists and cornrows, my hair just looks a HAM!!!:wallbash::wallbash:

I think the products that Missjae09 is using are good (coconut oil, shea butter, twist and lock gel, etc.) but I don't know if it's the technique I'm using to take them down that messes them up or what? Can anyone point me in the right direction, please!

ETA: I updated...I was able to get a cute twist out after all!!! See #21

Nothing to contribute. Just that you and your hair are pretty.

OP, what's your complaint? I don't see a H.A.M. so ermm...come again? Maybe if you point out the mess then I can think of a solution, but it looks good.

Only the middle pic looked crazy. The others look good.

Are you braiding on wet? Are you waiting till hair is fully dry?

I wish I could get a twistout to look like yours.. I think it looks great.

OT -- that first picture of you is lovely!

Wow, love your hair, i dont know, maybe those products are a little heavy?? i know my hair doesnt like too many heavy oils . I'm sure others will give better advice though

I think its cute! Especially the 4th pic! I'm not natural so there may be a difference but when I take my braids out the 4th day of having them instead of the day after I did them, my braidout looks a hot mess...its not cute and it literally just looks like I took out some braids. Did you moisturize before you took them out? Maybe if you add a bit of water to it the night before, it will have better definition? IDK! But I love your hair!

Umm... :look: Surely you're not referring to the twist-outs you posted on this thread? I think those look fantastic! The middle one looks a little wild, but I even think that one is really cute! I love BIG hair and your definition looks great too.

Maybe I've missed something...?

As Nonie stated, are you waiting until your hair is fully dry to take down the twist/braids? I know with my hair, say if I spray scurl on them or I take my twist down once I get out the shower, they will get a little frizzy. When I take down my twist I make sure they are fully dry and I put a little oil on my fingers and take them down.

You hair looks fine to me though. I love big hair!

Nonie, my complaint is that I am expecting my hair to be much more defined when I take the braids out. I see a few crinkles in my hair but mostly it's just big hair...I braid on wet hair and my hair is definitely dry when I take them out because I actually wear the cornrows or flat twists as a protective style...After having my hair in for braids for 5 days, I expect more definition, if that makes sense?

Maybe that's my problem LaFemme...I definitely do not take them out the day after I did them...I'm trying to get all the bang for my buck! Moisturize before I take them out? I can honestly answer, "No"...Only because from experience, when I take out the braids or twists, my hair SEEMS to be very well moisturized already...Thanks for the compliment, though.

Sianna, what I'm looking for is braid definition...I feel like my hair just looks big and if I was going for the big look, it would be fine...What I don't see is a braid out...I see an afro and although that could work, that's not what I'm going for with a braidout, if that makes sense?

I let them dry fully as I take them down on at least 5 day old flat twists/cornrows...Thanks for the compliment, though.

I think the twist out is cute, but are you putting oil on your fingers when you're taking them down? That will help decrease frizz.

ok i see your problem now....i would expect more definition if i let my hair stay in the style for that long too...

hmmm my only suggestion would be products.

wait.
first. is your hair in good condition to start with? Everything is worse on unhealthy hair.

If it is, then I'd say try switching up the products.

Coconut oil for me helps w/ definition in my twistouts/braidouts

but my shea butter coconut oil mixture leads to a puffy ugly mess *unless it's only at the very ends*

so maybe switch up your products and see how you fare.

I know what your saying. To keep the more crinkle look when taken them down I usually put these products on while wet and before twistin or flat braids: LTR, mix of Skala Shea leave in, BioFusion leave in and CD Tui Oil. Take down on day 3 or 4. I do need to try that method of oiling hands on the take down for a smother look.

or

a mix of CD hair butter, CD hair milk and CD Tui Oil on wet hair then braid

Whimsy,

My hair is in pretty good condition. Because I recently colored, I have incorporated DC and hard protein treatments. I also just purchased a steamer to start incorporating steam treatments.

Perhaps it is my products...I know that shea butter is used to help secure the twists, so I will re-visit the shea butter. Thanks for this!

What does CD stand for?

Try doing smaller and shorter braids/flat twists. Flat-twists tend to lose definition if your make them too long. Try parting your hair in half (from ear to ear) and doing flat twists in the two different sections.

This...thanks for this...I will definitely have my kitchentician try this next time, lol!

Update...

Well, I took your advice and switched up my products and voila!!! I got a cute twist out!!!! This is what I was looking for! Thanks for the advice ladies:yep::yep::yep:

i'd say maybe rewet the twists the day before you plan to take them out, that way when you take them out, the hair will have clumped back together again. Also, unravel them slowly, it may be time consuming, but untwist them, in the opposite way that they were twisted, rather than raking your finger through them.

You're so lucky you can wear that much color! My hair is breaking just by looking at your color. lol

What exactly did you change? Looks great!

The ladies on here can be so funny. OP was complaining about the fact that her twist outs had little definition and had pictures that clearly show this, but people were like "What? Nothing is wrong. You are pretty and have great hair!" :spinning: True, but...that's not what she's asking about!

RIIGGGHHTTT...But, it's all good...such is life in the LHCF world and I DEFINITELY appreciate the compliments!!!! Ladies on here like big hair, lol. :spinning::spinning:

Before, I was twisting with a leave-in condish, coconut oil, and shea butter...It looked great as a flat twist set, but not so much as a twistout. This time, Missjae09 used foam mousse, a leave-in, and a little bit of coconut oil and that made all the difference in the world:yep::yep::yep:!!!!

Thanks!
