I am really at a loss....I deep condition my hair, I moisturize and I do protective styling (mainly due to laziness) and I still have breakage. I am also finding of late that my hair is not getting straight come touchup time. I truly don't know what to do. I am at the point where I am about to say forget it, this takes to much energy and time. My last resort will be to cut protein completely out of my regimen to see if it's that. I wash, deep condition and rollerset once a week. My pjism is just about dead (thank God) and I am trying narrow down to a few products. I've tried co-washing and that resulted in frizzy, poufy hair with jacked up ends so I gave that up. We have also tried changing relaxers to see if it's a particular product. The problem I have is my darn sensitive scalp that burns easily!

Let me brutally honest, I am not at the point where I feel to go natural because while my natural hair is beautifu, I hate (and have always hated) the maintenance and the limited styling options. I am not actually one of those chicks who enjoys spending hours upon hours doing hair!

I think I am a 3c/4a with fine hair.

Any advice for a sister?

keep trying

The one thing I would have suggested ........went out the window when I read the post

so all I can say is keep trying to find what will work for your hair, don't give up

oh there is a mizani treatment that many have raved about for breakage

can't think of the name

maybe someone can tell you about that

I was going to say you may be better of going natural, at least that would eliminate the harshness of relaxers, the relaxers may be the culprit, not everyone's hair can stand the effects of relaxers, i've had family members with very soft hair that could not tolerate relaxers it would take their hair out so they would just resort to nicely braided styles.

I relax but at the same time relaxers are not for everyone and most likely is the cause of your breakage.

Being natural doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style, you can still get your hair straight without a perm.

you said you have fine strands what strength relaxers are you using? if you want to keep relaxing you may have to switch to mild if you don't use mild already.

Hey keyluv,

what type of relaxer do you use? do you have hard water? what's your regimen? what products do you use? A little more info so we can better help you :yep: Sorry about your hair, I have sooo been there.

I'd recommend leaving the protein alone. I did a protein dc in August that I'm STILL tryna bounce back from. :nono:

You don't have to answer, but if you are any prescribed medications, check their side effects for anything related to hair loss or vitamin deficiency.

Have you clarified your hair recently? You could have buildup that prevents your products from working their best.

You can also cut out any medium to hard proteins from your regimen and see if that works.

If your breakeage pieces are around the same length, you could possibly have splits than need trimming. It really could be a few things and with a little more time I'm sure you can figure out the culprit.

I use regular strength but I might have to change to mild.

Honestly, I don't think you gave enough detail to your FULL REGIMEN. How often do you DC, shampoo, protein treat...etc...

Please give a little more detail because we're all just going to sit here and speculate further and won't be too much of help.

: )

I wash, dc for about 20 minutes and rollerset then wrap hair weekly. My regimen is very, very simple. I use the following:

Elasta QP Creme Conditioning Shampoo
SE cholesterol or Lustrasilk shea/cholesterol (add olive oil and shea oil to these)
Headress Leave-in (searching for a new leave in conditioner)
Aphogee 2 min reconstructor every 2 weeks.

You made need to start moisturizing and sealing nightly, and the mizani h20...I started experiencing breakage while i did my weekly rollerset and it was just because my hair was too dry. My one time leave in wasn't enough for me. Try redken real control, it's kinda heavy but if you apply a little to your damaged areas it'll work fine. I also use keracare's leave in conditioner and he ltr leave in. I used the mizani h20 last night and already my hair feels so much better. try and find a better moisturizing conditioner as well, what you use may have too many cones in it for you. HTH

I have fine hair as well so I know what you are going through...just when you think u are doing everything right....

I would recommend adding a moisturizing deep conditioner to your regimen and maybe using the aphogee 2 minute every other week will alternating with the moisturizing condish...the SE/Lustrasilk will be more proteinish (made up word)...some good moisturizing dcs are Silk Elements Megasilk, Loreal Mega Moisture, Kenra...(just to name a few)

I was wondering the same thing about the cones. That is why I started using the lustrasilk shea/mango cholesterol with oils added because I wanted to get away from so many cones. I also have pulled back from using serums because they are loaded with cones.

Do you clarify before getting a relaxer? You may have build up that is preventing the relaxer from penetrating your strands, resulting in more of a Texlax.

Also, you my have to switch to a different brand/strength relaxer to get the desired results.

I would skip the protein for a while and concentrate on moisture and sealing and see how that helps.

Good luck.

These 2 issues:

1. ur regimen: great except for the constant protein. Your hair doesn't like it. Switch to a straight up moisturizing conditioner like the ones suggested so far. Keracare humecto is really good as well.

2. Hair not relaxing fully because of burning quickly: base your own scalp at home first. I use a good $1 petroleum heavy Soft Sheen from the dollar store. Do it yourself coz they're busy in the shop with 30 customers waiting so they don't usually base the whole head- they just run the base quickly over most of your scalp but not all of it. Fine hair is tricky in the sense that it relaxes quickly, but then it bounces back to curly if the relaxer stays on less than the proper time. So they rinse it out early coz you're burning and then you get home and one week later the roots revert from straight to curly. The hair needed like 3 or 5 more minutes. A hair dresser told me this about my hair like 6 years ago when I used to get it done at the shop. It made perfect sense to me.

What brand relaxer are you using? I notice you listed the strength.

When are you doing the reconstructor? Are you using it before your DC? I only ask because I notice you listed it last when you listed your regimen.

Have you tried using a different DC? I've never tried the SE Cholesterol but the LeKair stuff didn't moisturize my hair enough and it caused breakage for me.

Stop changing chemicals, NOW. This might be one of the reasons you are losing hair. Some chemicals do not work together. Even though you are still relaxing your hair, different brands use varying chemicals which may not react well together and produce adverse effects. Stick with the relaxer you currently use but don’t leave it on as long or use a weaker strength of the same brand, if not you will be posting more and more pleas for help.
In addition, you only need to use protein treatments when you are having breakage issues. Protein treatments purpose is to provide the hair with the only thing that will make it stronger once it leaves the scalp; protein, which can be extremely drying to the hair. After any protein treatment you have to add adequate moisture to the hair. To use protein treatments every two weeks as a regular part of your routine will cause the issues the treatment is supposed to repair.
