From my own anaylisis, I have found that Shakaki, Aritha, and Amla together can be very drying. If you have tried a tea rinse or paste and noticed that your hair is dry, you may want to use:

1/2tsp. shikaki or Aritha
1/2tsp. Amla
and more of the moisturizing powders such as brahmi and the others ( I have a brain fart and can't remeber the rest:lachen:)

Late Entry: Moisturizing powders 2tsp.

You are supposed to use 2 parts amla to 1 part shikakai to avoid the dryness issue - I know that, for certain. :yep: That's been my formula the whole time, and I've never had any dryness issues.....

I know the recipe. I noticed that amla makes my hair as hard as a rock. I think that you can tweek it a little bit and still get some of the benefits of the powders. Without your hair feeling like a helmet.

Just a suggestion. Not written in stone.

Ah - I wasn't certain that you were aware of that fact, since in your posted recipe, you are using equal amounts of the powders. :yep: You can definitely tweak it, as needed, and of course, it's all suggestions. :)

Fierce? :lachen: I suppose, that's one way to look at it.

There are so many lurkers, and so I try - esp. in things that I know about - to be utterly clear and make sure that others are clear, because there are people reading who can't ask for clarity, ya know? ;)

Have a fabulous weekend, and I hope you find your perfect mixture soon!

Yea, I don't mess w/aritha powder @ all and only 1/2 t shikakai to 3T ea of amla & brahmi. Sometimes I'll add a smidge of maka too (1/2t). Of course everyone's hair is different, but shikakai and aritha are both DEEP cleansers so I can see how using both of those @ once w/o enough conditioning/moisturizing powders would make someone's hair dry.

My mix is never drying. I use 1 tsp: Shikikai, Fenugreek, Brahmi, Maka 2 tsp: Amla, Hibisucus. I read about the drying affects of Aritha so I never messed with it.

I've been dry lately myself using the powders I just recently came out of my braids after a few years. Synthetic hair is also drying, was using powders between braids also. Now I'm trying to get moisture where ever I can find it...Mayo, Avocados and Honey also been looking for hydrating leave-ins and conditioners...and totally NOT using shampoo. Sincerly Anna

Does hibicus color your hair that wine color? been wanting to try it but not looking for that color hair.

Only indian powder I have used is Brahami, and I love it!! My ng feel like soft cotton even after it had completely dried.

I've never had my hair to turn a wine color. The mix is a reddish/wine color even with all of the other powders mixed in but my hair hasn't changed to that color. I leave my tea/mix on my hair for 30 mins to an hour. I just end up with really soft moisturized hair after I rinse, co-wash, and DC. If you are concerned about your hair changes colors then leave it on for a shorter period of time like 10 mins or so.
