My hair is just ridiculous. It's reall thick, but bdly broken off..I was gonna tr to do a little dustin today, i dont even know where to start..I blowdried it becuase I was getting tired of seeing this same tired ponytail for about 2 months, but the nd ae so raggedy and its so thick and poofy that had no choice but to pony it up. Mango Butter and Jojoba oil are my friends today...hmmm ok im done venting.. p.s. i swear im almost tempeted to relax it nextwe and then try to brave the chlorine..i mean it cant be THAT bad can it?????Im sure there are professional black swimmers wth relaxed hair

end of may...i really think it will be ok if i take good cr of t..i remember you saying that when you were younger you went swimming after a relaxer and you're hair came out...hw about if i wait a week after relaxing , maybe a week and a half to get back to swimming, and i neutralize or us my swimmer's shampoo afterwards for a while and condition it and moisturize good all the time?????

bump....i know someone out there knows something...supergirl isn't the only one who has been swimming once upon a time

When I was on the swim team, I was a child, so my hair was cornrowed. My mom also washed it once a week (Creme of Nature shampoo, Vo5 conditioner, Africa's Pride Miracle gro cream headdress)

If it's breaking, trim. You'll give your hair a fresh start. I'm not sure if blowdrying it would have been the best thing to do if the chlorine made it dry. I also wouldn't advise relaxing just yet. Have you thought about getting a rollerset?

Clarify once every two weeks and make sure you're using a shampoo that combats chlorine. Aubrey organics makes a swimmers shampoo. As does philou.

If you don't have any reservations about wearing a swim cap, please start now. Add some deep conditioner to your hair (not a lot) and bun it and then put on the cap. Rinse your hair afterwards.

You may want to try a hot oil treatment (try olive oil) once a week. Leave it on (you can actually do this without heat, too) for a half an hour and then wash your hair as normal. Make sure that you add a little bit of moisture to your scalp, too.

Oiling your hair will give it moisture and decrease frizz and poofiness by weighing the hair down slightly.

Oil the hair from the earlobes down with a minimal amount of jojoba or coconut oil.

I do hot oil treatments and all kinds of moisturizing and conditioning treatments, but since i get in the chlorine every other day at least, it all gets stripped..i want to trim it but im worried that I'll just do more damage, its not even at all, my new growth isnt all of uniform length and then i'll end up having to cut even more off in a couple months. Ugh, I just dont care anymore

You may do this already, but I'd try slathering my hair with conditioner and using a swim cap. When I was on the swimteam I would do this, as well as rinse and apply conditioner directly after practice. I relaxed at normal intervals as well.

Cheerbear--that really sounds like a good routine for a swimmer. Also, throw in Tracy's suggestion about slathering your hair with conditioner, putting on your swim cap and leaving it like that. I wonder if you could even get the neutralizing poo on the freshly re-touched hair and leave it like that while you swim.
