So, since I first saw this board, I've been reading like crazy and researching like mad to try to understand my hair. What it likes, what it dislikes, what internal sources affect it, and what outside sources affect it. Every time I think I've figured something out, something new gets thrown in my face.

Up until this morning, I thought I had low porosity hair. Now, I'm not so sure. I don't remember my hair having this much trouble absorbing product in the past or being this dry in the past (mind you...other places I've lived growing up after I started doing my own hair did NOT have hard water. Hawaii, and Virginia)...but I've been relaxed since I was 8, so I don't know if that was a result of the chemical, or just how my hair is. If that is the case...then I need some serious change here.:wallbash: I can't clarify every week! It'll dry my hair out something awful.:crying3:

I went to clean my shower this morning, and I've always noticed this..but I've never TAKEN NOTE of it, if you get what I mean. There's a reddish-pink...salmon-ish kind of colored residue on my showerhead that I always clean off. It's there weekly. I know we have hard water, after looking at the map someone posted, this part of IL has the second highest level by the coding chart.

Can hard water cause hair to have a low porosity, or exhibit the same symptoms as low porosity hair? I did a honey & jojoba oil DC lastnight. Put the jojoba on first, wet my hair, and put the honey in it. Then I capped it and sat under my dryer bonnet attachment for 30 mins. My hair was SOOO soft...I rinsed it out...and I felt like imitating this smiley here ->:wallbash: I bought some bentonite clay finally..and I want to try it, but I have a feeling I'm going to be seriously irked if if makes my hair feel all nice until I rinse and it starts feeling like the Sahara again.

I won't be able to purchase a showerhead filter until another 3 weeks, so I won't know for sure until then. Anyone have any suggestions?

Buy a bottle of distilled water and use that for one wash. If your hair comes out better then you know your water is the culprit and you definitely need that showerhead.

I live in a hard water area and noticed a significant difference when I started using distilled water for my final rinse.

Ok so I went and got distiller water when my SO came home...we ended up just getting the shower filter anyways since it's 19.97 at walmart. Went ahead and put the bentonite clay in, covered and left in for an hour. Rinsed it out under the new shower head and yeaaahh...I don't know how to describe this. It felt like my hair was very clean but not stripped...like squeaky clean it wasn't. Put some jojoba oil in my hair and let it air dry just to see how it would feel dry. It feels Wonderful! O.O hopefully it stays this way.

Depends on the filter and the severity of the mineral content. This one is also made for problems with scale. I called my water company to ask advice on what to look for :)
