Has anyone ever allowed someone else or a group of people influence you to do something different to your hair even though you had other goals in mind? I am so mad at myself because I recently wore my hair down after a relaxer and it had grown a great deal. The relaxer didn't take very well but it was long and thick and I liked it. Well, my coworkers kept staring at it and making comments and saying I should cut it. I had already trimmed even though I know it wasn't perfect and of course, that night I go home and cut about an inch more! That was so off from my plan of cutting one inch at relaxer time! :( I will let this be learning experience! Anybody have similar experinces?

Yes, don't feel bad you are definately not alone.

Since I joined my goal has been to get to BSL. To make a long story short I got my hair cut into a bob this past May and so regret it. Starting my journey again. At least I know how to take care of it, just being patient for it to grow long again is the hard part.

I tend to straighten my hair because people say that they prfer my straightened hair instead of my nappy/curly fro. :(

I'm not going to straighten my hair for at lkeast 100 days, it's a personal challenge.

I also want to kick myself because I ended my relaxer stretch early for a date! As I was rinsing the relaxer out I really missed my pretty natural new growth and my hair felt so changed and unhealthy! This will not happen again!

hair-wise, i'm starting to get less and less influenced by other people. It's MY hair, I'M growing it without YOUR help, so why do you have stuff to say about it??? my aunt keeps recommending that i get a relaxer everytime i'm stretching and i'm like 'nah, i have a few more weeks to go' she tells me my hair is nappy, and i'm like 'ok...' she's gotten better with the comments... my own aunt, gosh!

she does my relaxers and MAN do i lose a lot of hair then. she combs it all rough and stuff and back then it didnt use to happen b/c i would never stretch for so long and i never airdried, but now it's like 'omg... i dont wanna get a touch-up" i even wonder if she's doing it on purpose!

since being on LHCF, i've been very apprehensive about letting people do stuff in my hair. Since i take all the time in the world to comb etc, i can't have other ppl pulling at my hair like they're crazy! which is why i haven't gotten it braided, not even by mom, and haven't gotten a rollerset in months! b/c even though my mom has strong healthy hair, she'd be too rough on mine.

Oh snap! I just trimmed my hair, but it was my decision. It really needed it. But for some reason mine always grows back faster. Anyway, after 2 days, I forget I even trimmed it. I hope you will do the same, it's no use dwelling on it. It will grow back faster than you'll realize.

I really don't care what people think, I used to...and my hair was damaged and wouldn't grow past a certain lenght. When I joined this group I found out it was okay your hair could be beautiful straight, natural or texturized. When I'm in NYC people love my funky afros and braidouts (I get nonstop compliments) but when I am out in the suburbs of NJ people just stare and hate. My neighbors always wonder why I wear an afro or why my hair is so frizzy...mind you this woman's hair is lye, fried and totally dry! I JUST DON'T LISTEN TO PEOPLE WITH BAD HAIR (meaning dried up and fried up) half the time people say things out of jealousy!

A long time a go a hair dresses told me that if I wanted my hair to look good everyday then I would have to use the curling iron daily and if the curls fall then to do it twice per day. Looking back on it I can see why my hair was so damaged. :nono:

She should be shot for saying that!

I would let someone else that I trust, or go to a salon to get my relaxer done...you have to be gentle with new growth.

Not influenced by people at all....they can say my hair is looking a raggedy mess when i am not using heat on it and i dont blink an eye, just "uh huh".."oh ok"

Nope. Well maybe a little when I was younger but I was usually the one that said lets go home instead of hang out if curfew was coming up. Now my little sister is very easily influenced and is definitely a people pleaser instead of a leader.

:p This site and its members are becoming my best defense against HAIR haters, who may take many different forms. I'm starting to recognize and keep my distance anyone (including so call friends) who just wants to share negativity -- and nothing positive.

When I need a dose of positive hair energy, I log on!;)

I went through it Labor Day weekend. I trimmed it because someone else said I needed to cut it. As a matter of fact, I was told I needed to cut my hair to my chin or to my ears.

I cheated myself because I was on the no trim challange and I wanted my hair to be atleast shoulder length by December. I don't know what my results will be by the end of the year but I know I will not cut my hair again until I'm ready.

I'm kinda stubborn. My friends have been trying to get me to wear my hair in different styles that don't include a bang. But I won't budge. I have to have a bang...b/c I think my forehead is big. :(
