Are we addicted to braids, cornrows, and weaves?

Yes, I think one of the reasons why the back of my head is broken off is because I've spent the last 19 months wearing a phonie ponie. When I started wearing them, it was only for the summer months. After I found the drawstring type and new styles, it became a habit.

Until I found this site, my hair was badly neglected.

Do you assume these styles are healthy and promote growth? Have you neglected your own hair in favor of these styles? In the past I was guilty of doing this.

Well I was seriously guilty of this. I would bleach my hair to match my corkscrew curl human hair braids and cut it off when it got too long cause my stylist braided to the end of my hair which meant I would have only 3-4 inches of the curl left - I wasn't having that I'd paid good money for that hair:lol:
The other thing was washing my hair once every 6 weeks so the hair wouldn't slip off [my hair grew out pretty well - if I would stop cutting] but was always quite dry. I'm still battling dryness issues cause I refuse to give up my colour but its sooo much better thanks LHCF!

Yes I think it is addictive for some. I wore a wig for 6 months straight and messed up my nape and edges ast year. It was so convenient and I wasn't paying attention like I should have and I KNEW better.

Some women get so bad they won't leave the house until the weave or braids are back in after removal.

The instant length is addictive for some also.

What's addictive for me is the convenience of always have "ready to go" hair. But I am being extremely diligent to care for my hair within the braid because I don't want tore up edges and dried out, broken off hair from being lazy.

Yes I am recovering micro mini braid addict. I wanted the smallest possible braids even though my once very thick hair suffered from them...Since finding LCHF I am getting back slowly but surely to healthier thicker hair.

I only braid and cornrow with my own hair...and do not wear weave. So no for me...

As long as you hair is well taken care of. But you dont want to wear these styles to long because it may weaken your hair. Some may percieve that it gives your hair time to rest. So i dont know if im pro or con. But if you like the look, these styles are fine just as long as you make sure your hair is healthy.

YES... I am addicted to weaves! It's the reason why I am at APL now!!!!! I plan to wear weaves until January 2009!

I wouldn't say that I am addicted but I do have to have my hair braided every summer...... wait, then that makes me addicted:look:

ITA with the other poster; as long as you real hair is not being neglected then it shouldn't be a problem. The longest I've gone was about 5 months with braids and had no major problems:)

I am addicted to braids and say it w/o shame. :D It's the style I am most familiar w/ and the one in which my hair stays at its healthiest. Because I do my braids myself, I tend to be very meticulous about handling my hair with care. The "ready to go" factor is a huge reason I love braids, and the extra length from extensions gives me more styling options than I'd have with short hair.

I love my weave and i am addicted. I love the instant length and love the fact that i can do more damaging styles to it( like flat iron it) and not really worry about long term damage. I think the difference is if you think that is the only way to have long hair or if you feel that it is a means to getting your hair long. I know my hair will grow this will just allow me to leave it alone while it does

I think I'm becoming addicted to braids. I do my own, and even have a tentative schedule planned out for the rest of the year.

The reason why I keep gettting braids is because I'm always changing my mind about my hair and the braids keep me from doing anything too drastic that I may regret.

i am defintely addicted to braids....but in a good way. i use the crown and glory method, and while in braids i am sure to constantly moisturize and condition my hair so it is not brittle. i defiontel do not neglect my hair while in braids.

Nonie, you are on point with this one. My hair seems to be the most healthiest with braids/cornrows. My hair grew 1.5 inches in one week (with growth aids) while in braids/cornrows. I probably couldn't get such success if I had to manipulate it everyday. And, I totally love being able to reduce the time it takes me to get out of the door to go to work in the morning.
