Ok trying to decide if and how much I should trim my hair.. Also trying to decide if I should get a professional to do it since I haven't before .. I call myself dusting about 5 weeks ago and I think I trimmed half in in inch 4 months ago... I feel like my ends are just like this but tell me what u think ... First pick is of the twist i unraveled in front and then the zoom in on its ends..

I don't necessarily see any splits. It appears more like they are just thin and uneven. Do they feel rough to you? Do they tangle?

If you set your ends on rollers, it would be easier to tell if they are rough, ragged and split.

If you want to get them evened out, you can do it yourself since your hair is fairly long. If you don't want to do it yourself, then you may want to go to something LIKE a Hair Cuttery where they won't chop all of your hair off.

To me they don't feel that dry , they feel about the same as everything else ... I do have color left on my ends from a few years ago though .. I can never figure out if my ends look the way they do because there split ends or if that's just the way my hair type is... I'm still debating on if I should just do it myself .. I need to figure this out before I get my full sew in on Friday that will be in for 16 weeks( my goal)

If you recently dusted and your ends don't feel dry, rough or tangled I wouldn't worry about it. Get your sew in and then take off 1/2" to 1" when you take out your sew in.

I wouldn't bother evening it up now to put in a sew-in.

They look more like frayed ends, which I typically trim because they look and feel rougher than the rest of my hair. Anytime I install a long-term protective style, I always make sure my ends are healthy before doing so.

Or would it be best to have the person doing my sew in to trim it before install?

I think 1/2 an inch would be perfectly fine, like others have mentioned they really don't look bad they just look a bit frayed. I wear my hair in alot of buns and twists and I've discovered they're kinda rough on my ends so my ends look frayed like yours when I know I need a trim. If I go too long without a trim, then I start seeing the frayed ends split.

Well I just gave in and trimmed while in my twist 1/2 inch off... They still look blah to me but a bit better.. image-1897793022.jpg I'm going to put some castor oil on the ends and be done with it until i get my sew in .. Can u tell a difference because I can't but I'm always staring at them

They look fine. What is it that you think they should look like?

I remember when my hair was short it was thick from top to bottom and the ends coiled instead of looking frayed.

Sort of like this .... This is not a pic of my hair but just an example

But maybe it's just me because I'm always examining my hair

Ok. I see what you are looking for. I think that may be more of an issue of evenness. You would have to trim it back a bit. I don't think it means your ends are unhealthy though.

Shalay11, are you transitioning by chance? Per last picture posted you would have to even out the hair to get perfect evenness throughout twist...

My ends look like that all the time. For me it's thin, fraying ends. I trim them. They aren't healthy to me.

When my ends are like yours I have to trim or else they start splitting pretty fast. It make styling more difficult to me.
