Hi,
How are braidiouts, rollersets, flexirods, etc all considered PS when your ends are out and not protected? Thanks yall.........

I believe they are considered more low manipulation vs protective styling. I believe I read somewhere that a protective style can be low manipulation but not vice-versa. If you look around I'm sure that you'll find more detailed answers.

I don't consider them PS but some (many) people don't have enough hair to tuck away ends unless they limited themselves to styles like cornrows or braid extensions and things get redefined on hair boards all the time. So maybe some people compromised on the issue and consider these things protective styles coz they're low/no heat and minimum or no comb styles.

The PPs are right. PS are styles that ensure that your ends are tucked away out of sight and away from the drying air and from rubbing against your clothes. So those styles are only PS if worn in updos that ensure that ends are hidden out of sight. Otherwise they are just simply low mani if the person isn't combing her/his hair much while wearing them.

I think this sounds accurate to me but I guess they can also be considered protective in the sense that they don't require heat. For the most part, though, I would just think of them as low mani rather than PS
