Are there any precautions I need to take before relaxing?

Okay, it's about that time that I get a perm. It's been two months and this mess is gettin ridiculous! Do I need to do anything before the relaxer? Should I deep condition after? I want to do as little damage as possible. TIA! :D

I don't really do anything to prep for a perm other than (1) making sure that my hair isn't squeaky clean (my grandma says that the perm won't take if the hair is clean - don't know if that's true, but at any rate I make sure it's been at least a week since my last wash) and (2) stop scratching a day or two before!

You can add a conditioner, oil, or grease to your ends so the relaxer won't overlap to those ends.

Make sure you base you scalp good.

You should also deep condition (preferably with heat) after a relaxer for no less than 10 minutes. Make sure you use a good quality conditioner with a nice mixture of moisture and protein. Also, adding a moisturizing leave-in makes all the difference too.

good luck and let us know how it goes.:)

Make sure to neutralize thoroughly for at least 5 minutes. From what I've learned, it is not the # of times you suds up, it is the amount of time total the shampoo is in your hair. Sudsing up 3x for 10 min is better than sudsing up 5x in 2 min.
