Relaxers do damage your hair by forcing the cuticle into a straight pattern, but with care incredible health and length can be achieved. Take a look at Zanna, Sherrylove, Andrienne, Supergirl, ccd album. These are just the ones that pop into my head. I'm sorry for the hundreds of other ladies that I know I've missed.
Yes, it is most certainly possible. My mother's hair is waist-length and it happened within the last couple of years. All of a sudden, her hair just started growing. Now she does not mind telling her age so I will too, she's 57 years old and most of her incredible hair growth happened after 50. It had nothing to do with menopause either. She would sleep with conditioner on her hair and she taught me that you should always go at least 8 weeks between relaxers and she has followed that regimen faithfully.
But of course, she wouldn't even let a comb touch her new growth when it was dry and she doesn't even own a brush. Less manipulation, more strength, longer hair.
I've seen pictures of what relaxers can do, and yes, the ingredients of most relaxers are rough rough rough! Some people will say yes relaxers are bad, some will say with proper care relaxers don't have to be so damaging.
I'm the first one to say that the relaxer is some serious stuff, and if you are not careful, you can do some serious damage to yourself let alone your scalp.
Up until recently I had been natural. I have formed my own opinions about relaxing, and knew the potential outcomes if I ever decided to relax again.
I believe that your hair can and will grow whether you have a relaxer or not. And that the opinion of a relaxer being good or bad will be different according to who you ask.
