Are growth aids really necessary?

I am so close to buying some mega tek but wondered if it's really a necessity. Will the changes that I've already made (cowashing, dc, protective styles, moisturizing, etc) help my hair become healthy and grow longer? I guess I should be worried about health first then length...

I don't think so. I have not used any. My hair has gained length just from taking good care of it and not letting anyone (ahem, the scissor happy population) mess up my work.

They're not necessary. I had good growth in the past without them. In fact, I've had good growth & retention & health without DCing or protective styling at all too. :ohwell: But they won't hurt. I'm just hoping to have super-mega-growth & retention by using them and DCing and protective styling.

No, they are not necessary. But you might choose to use them anyway. Hair grows without them. However, some people report growth aids help things along.

I'm not adverse to using growth aids, but i haven't used them thus far, and have had great growth, and increased thickness, just taking extra care of my hair :)

They're not necessary for me. Good hair care practices (along with a healthy diet and regular exercise) has been enough for me to see progress.

I don't think they are necessary, but they are an excellent boost and they really do speed up the process. However, I imagine. You would still have to find which one works for you.

I don't believe external growth aids can change your internal growth rate. I've not seen any pictures that prove differently. As long as you are pretty healthy and exercise, have a good diet, and get adequate sleep your hair is going to grow at it's optimal rate.

Worry about the health of your hair and retaining the length you get. Good hair care and patience is really all you need. DC'ing, oiling, washing frequently, etc. do not change your growth rate, they aid in retaining length. If you've already made changes that are improving your hair, stay with them. The length you just have to be patient and wait for it to happen.

I don't think they are. I have used MN, MT, and BT and while on some weeks I get a boost, I am not sure if I should credit it to growth aids or just taking care of my hair. But I don't plan on restocking on growth aids, anymore. I say try one bottle of MT, just to get it out your system and see for yourself.

I've never used them and probably won't. It's just more work for lazy me. They're not necessary. Besides, most of the bandwagons here are different growth-aids, and it's best not to jump on bandwagons.

No they are not necessary. Hair grows as long as you are alive and not suffering from an illness that interfers in the growth process. I grew my hair to waist length using good hair care practices and patience. I rather put more time and energy into retaining my growth than trying to speed up the growth process.

Not at all. Some of us "greedy" girls ( no offense ) do growth aides. I've only dabbled with MN 2% hoping for an inch or so. I'm not opposed to MT or Claudies. In fact, I want to try them to see if I can hit APL by spring.

I'm also learning that retaining length is better than increasing growth rate. I'd rather have bouncy shiny NL hair than damaged and choppy looking BSL hair. (would I?) LOL

No seriously.

Probably not, but after being on this board for about 7 months, I decided to try OCT just to see for myself. It's pretty expensive, though, to not work. If you do decide to try one, maybe you should just go with one of the less expensive options just to see for yourself. On this board, people are always saying that this and that doesn't work. However, another person will rave about it and swear by it. You just have to see for yourself.

IMO, most growth aids only cause extra problems for you to deal with (shedding, dryness, etc.). I use BT/Bee Mine sometimes and I find that they don't cause any extra frustration. In short, they are NOT necessary.

Necessary?...............................No.

Helpful?.................................Most definitely IMHO

Thanks for the replies ladies. I think that I have to give mega tek a try. I will buy one bottle to see for myself. Thanks again!

Ladies, I use growth aids. Now I can't say that Mega tek actually has grown my hair, but it has become UNBELIEVEABLY THICK! I have always had thick hair, but never like this...not even as a kid and my big sister tell me that they use to put my 1 pony tail in 4 braids just to close the ends together.

FscBride,

I was noticing your goals, and I truly think if you try Mega Tek you will reach that first goal before you know it. I used it and saw a huge difference in just 4 months.

Check out my profile. Look at my starting pic (me in the black) and my ending pics....all the others that you can see. You can see the thickness that I've obtained as my hair has been growing long again.

Maybe I wasn't consistent enough, but I want my money back on all the external growth aids I've purchased in the past...and I've tried many in my height of harimania! They never worked for me, but some seem to have excellent results.
