Are end papers necessary for roller sets?

I'm going to start doing my own hair again and was wondering. I'm trying to be environmentally friendly and not waste money on them if the results without them are similar.

I use them for my braid-outs on perm rods. Helps my ends to be less frizzy. I bought a box of 1000 a couple of years ago and I still have a little more than half of the box left.

They aren't necessary for regular plastic rollers (the kind used in Dominican salons). But as Americka said, they are great for setting wet ends on perm rods or sponge rollers when doing braidouts. Or setting dry hair on perm rods or sponge rollers at night. I don't think you should ever use sponge rollers without end papers as the sponge can draw moisture out of your hair and also hair tends to "catch" on the sponge and get pulled out.

End papers really protect your ends and keep them healthier.

I would say depends on the roller. Since I went natural, I have the hardest time getting a smooth set on magnetic rollers (the kind used in Dominican salons).

I am contemplating using papers going forward to help keep the hair straight and keep the hair ON the dang roller, lol
