I'm interested in castor oil for the hair thickening and growth some have experienced with it.

I want to order Jamaican Black C.O. online, but my wallet needs a break this month. Until then, I want to use regular castor oil.

The stuff from the drugstore has only one ingredient in its list--Castor Oil--but I feel like it's been refined too much or something.

It has no smell whatsoever. Isn't castor oil supposed to smell?

Have some castor oils been processed too much to be helpful for hair, and if so, how do I tell the difference>

alot of ladies use that castor oil and do benefit from it

my stance

unrefined in all oils is better, but just try the reg one , till you can get the unrefined then you can see how you like them both

the JBCO is good, a lil thick/sticky/syrupy/heavy, I had a hard time adjusting to it , I would not use it as a daily thing because of how it feels, but will in treatments and such

I may be a little biased because I am Jamaican, but JBCO is way better for your hair, it is not processed, it is carefully made by local women (including my great grandmother) using their hands and stone to mash the nut and extract the oil.

So way less processing so the good stuff is not lost

Some ppl are turned off from the smell of JBCO but I see that they are making lavendar JBCO now (at tropicIsle.com I believe). Try both, one product can work different on two ppl.

I am using the jamaican black castor oil and upon recommendation from a friend here, I am adding a litlle coconut oil to it just to thin it out. This combination is much easier to work with than the castor oil alone. The smell does not bother me now but when I first got it and took a whiff, I thought it was strong. The one thing I noticed is that I can still smell it in my hair after application but again this does not bother me.

Right now I aqm concentrating on edges as they are a little thin. The hair seems to be coming back but slowly. I have not used the regular castor oil so I have nothing to compare it to. But I have read about ladies on here that have had results with both. So I say, use the regular castor oil and you can afford the JBCO. Then you can compare the two and see which one works better for you.

Awesome responses, friends!

I actually like the consistency of my 'internal :) consumption" drugstore one. It is more like a non-sticky glycerin-y gel than like an oil, which can be greasy.

But it DOES leave grease spots on my alice band/cloth headband, even though it doesn't feel greasy to my touch.

I'll keep using the white D/s castor 'till I can invest in the Jamaican black.
