I would say those are fine. What matters the most is how tight they will be. Just make sure whoever is doing your hair goes lighthanded when they get to the hairline.
I think that size is ok, that's about the size of mine now, and the last time I had them in my hairline was fine. My hair grew quite nicely and I retained the length with no extra breakage or shedding outside the norm. Just don't pull it up in a ponytail or change the direction the base was braided in for until after 2 or 3 weeks when you have had some growth and even then and thereafter do it lightly, wrap up at night, keep your scalp moisturized and you'll be fine.
