Aphogee Treatment Did Not Get 'Extremely Hard' In My Hair, Just Stiff, So...

(I can't figure out how to update my other thread's title to reflect the new questions I added, so I'm going to cut and paste them here...)

Well, I used the treatment yesterday and am back with another question.

I am pleased with the outcome, which is that it did not seem to damage my hair in any way and left my hair soft and shiny instead of rough as I was afraid it would. But, I am concerned that it did not get "extremely hard" as the package and several posts that I've read here stated it would, even though I left in on my hair for an hour. Because of that, I am unsure of whether I will receive the full benefit of using it.

The treatment and my hair definitely dried completely, but it never got very hard. It only felt stiff, like it would if I'd applied a large quantity of wet-look gel to it (such as Dep). It also had that gelled look -- waves frozen into place and shiny.

I sat for 35 minutes under the hooded dryer, then used the handheld dryer on the lower part of my hair for another 25 minutes. I only used the treatment on a very small amount of hair because that is the portion I am interested in strengthening right now. I made a horizontal part at my ears and only applied the product from that part forward. This is the 'face frame' section of my hair which is cut just a bit shorter than the rest. (I put the rest of my hair up in a bun.)

I do feel that I saturated my hair thoroughly with the treatment, and I combed it through as instructed. I towel-dried my hair before applying it.

I used two of the 1-2-3 combo packs, so that was a total of 2 ounces of treatment on that very small (yet long) section of hair. As I applied it, it seemed like just the right amount of product, not too much or too little. I also used the shampoo before and moisturizer afterwards, as the directions stated. I followed that with my beloved Garnier Fructis conditioner, even though it did not feel necessary.

So, my question is, does this treatment really get rock-hard on everybody's hair? Since it didn't on mine, does that mean I need to use a lot more next time?

Did I just overestimate what 'extremely hard' meant? I was expecting it to feel more like a helmut.

Based on your description, I think it worked properly for you. Mine doesn't get extremely hard but it gets rather crunchy and dry. Stiff is good though. Glad you were happy with the turnout!

Thank you, Cincysweetie! My mind is at ease now after reading your reply. :yep: I can't wait to try it six weeks from now on my entire head and hope to see an improvement in the strength of my hair in due time.

Personally, I don't care too much for aphogee, but I know some people on this site like it. It makes my hair too stiff. It is the protein that causes that problem.

Lthomas, thank you for this comment. Did your hair stay stiff even after the treatment and moisturizer were washed out? If so, did it happen the first time you used it, or did the problem develop after multiple uses?

I read a lot about this treatment before buying it, so I was concerned that my hair might remain hard or stiff after it was washed out and air-dried. I was relieved to find that it became soft again as soon as I began to rinse it out. But, I wonder if that might change after several uses. I plan to try it every six weeks as recommended, but will stop if it starts to change the texture of my hair.
