One tip a stylist said is that if you relax your hair, you cannot color it and if you color, you cannot relax it. It has to be one chemical process or the other. Oprah agreed. I don't think they know about henna...

Did you guys hear when Oprah said she felt empowered when she cut Hillary's hair? The stylists agreed that cutting hair gives them power. Now we know why stylists are scissor happy.

Yes, wasn't that something?! She said she could really feel that power. There might be a lot more to this phenomenon than realized before. :scratchch Hair itself represents power, according to many sources, especially long hair...

One stylist said Asian hair is very different from other hair--he said it's the shiniest hair. He also said Asian hair doesn't move. I haven't heard or seen that information before. He asked the Asian lady to swing her hair with her new cut--apparently, she wasn't able to swing it when her hair was long.

Oh, I could have fell off my chair after I saw how excited those two guys where about cutting hair. Well, I won't be handing over any power to a stylist with scissors. Oprah outted them, The SECRET is out:yep:

I caught it late last night.... Some of the makeovers were amazing. Some of them were not so amazing....

I knew that about choosing between relaxing and coloring.... I think she meant the chemical coloring, not henna per se.... A couple of them seemed color-happy as much as they were scissor-happy.... the one lady saying to color the roots only.... I thought that was common knowledge.... she really encouraged the women to color, use home coloring kits and to experiment.... Which in a sly way, will push some of those women back to the salon for corrections because they abused the home coloring and fried/damaged the hair....

I saw the show and the only good advice was about the relaxing/coloring .....do either or not both. The black female stylist wore a weave I would have like to seen her real hair. Most of the black females that got a makeover had weave added to their hair.:ohwell: The show was boring.

Even though I tuned in when there was only 20 mins or so left, I changed the channel. It was boring.
I think you and Kurlee have a point. I taped the show, rubbing my hands together, thinking some exciting secrets and tips were going to be revealed. Actually, those exciting tips are here on this board. ;)

I did find it refreshing to see a stylist on the show who specializes in women with long hair. :)

The best tip/secret was when they revealed that the scissors made them feel powerful. That will certainly help me the next time my stylist says I need a trim. I won't fall for it. I hold the power!!

:yep:I have learned something new today:nono:, nobody will take my hair away...

I noticed that they did not talk about Protien/Moisture Balance and when the lady with braids asked how to moisturize the hair under the weave - the black woman stylist said, "do a hot oil treatment after and before taking down weave." Well I was miffed, because some women leave their sew ins in their heads for MONTHS without moisturizing the hair underneath.

I thought this show was terrible, because they did not inform the audience/viewers on actual "haircare". It was a shame. I think they just had extra footage from the last "hair" show.

I was feeling disappointed that I missed this, but I see it wasn't much. I'm gonna start observing the Asian women on campus to see if their hair really doesn't move. Frankly, that sounds kind of dubious.

The part about stylists having power from cutting was interesting, but not surprising. Hair isn't something that grows back instantly, so they must feel *something* knowing they can get rid of months of growth (not to mention, drastically change someone's appearance) in a split-second. Even when I tried to trim my own hair, it made me sort of nervous.

I watched it... but wasn't impressed... they barely talked about "our" hair!

I was actually nodding off b/c it was so boring! I don't know what I expected them to reveal, knowing all my important info comes from here! :yep:

The scissor-happy empowerment thing was significant though! That explains it all!

Her audience is 80% white folks. They are not interested in our hair! Our hair does not make for good tv ratings.!:ohwell:

As previously stated............that show was so very boring. I was so disappointed. I rushed home to see that sorry show.:nono:

You may be onto something there. Makeover shows are so common now. Many fashion shows and talk shows are doing them. Maybe another way to increase the challenge and gain viewer interest would be to provide makeovers but limit the hairstylists to using only the participants real hair. :yep:

I remember a stylist told me that although she liked long hair (which is why she didn't try to cut me bald all the time) that she felt "sexy" when she was cutting hair. She didn't cut mind but I know that she really enjoyed cutting hair. When I clip my ends I don't feel sexy at all........

Funny you should say that. I know for a fact that in either January or February TLC is going to air an episode of "10 Years Younger" that will feature a pretty dramatic makeover of a Black woman. I found out because I was asked to comment on her makeover on the street here in New York! LOL!!!

Anywho...one thing that really stood out to me. When people were complimenting her hair, the hair stylist (who I believe was White) shouted to her, "See how much people love YOUR hair??? NOW do you see why I refused to add a weave to it??? It's beautiful without it!"

If only there were more folks like her...

Their hair is Mongoloid and is thick and heavey. They also have a hard time coloring it lighter - their hair usually turns orange instead of blond.
