I need to find a good hair salon that caters to African American hair. I'm having a hard time finding someplace I can trust right now, especially with my trims! Ya know, someone who can understand that I'm on a hair-growing mission here! Any help would be really appreciated.

Hello, I am from Burlington-NC, I'm sorry I don't know of any salons in Raleigh, but there is one in Burlington that I love everytime I go home(which should be more often). Let me know if you are interested and up for the drive.

Hi Dionne, you're only 20min from Burlington. The salon is called Image Makers in Burlington it is listed.

By the way, the hairdressers name is Wendy. She isn't cheap, but you will be very pleased. She does outstanding rollersets(doobies), and what I like is she pampers your hair as so you do yourself. Be careful, her styling isn't that great, but I like her a lot.

hello Porkypig007,
I live in Fayetteville NC and my beautician is wonderful. He is THE only person I trust to trim and apply relaxers. He has his own line of products, a few of which can be found in some fayetteville beauty supply stores. He has saved my hair. Back when I wore weaves contantly and didn't know how to take care of my hair, I became sick of my stringy, sick overprocessed hair. A friend reccommended that I go to him. When I talked to him over the phone, he was very polite. I explained my situation and told him my hair was so damaged than it needed to be cut all the way off....down to the two inches of new growth. When I when into the shop, he assured me that I didn't have to take it that far, so,he cut my hair into a cute, short bob and shaved in the back. I absolutely loved it. As my hair began to grow (seems that it grew super fast), He only gave light trims every 3 or 4 months. My hair is restored to heath while still gaining length. I hope he stays around for a long time, cuz if I can't go to him...I'll have to do it myself. If you are looking for a beautician who concentrates on the health of hair rather than extreme hair styles, give him a try. You may even want to try some of his products first. My hair has done such a 360, that he asked me to write a testimonial and chart my progress from now on. I have been growing out my hair for about 9 months and it grows real slow in the winter, I can hardy wait till the summer. Anyway his name is Michael Stone and the name of his product line is Natural Island, as the name suggests his products are made with natural stuff. I'll give you the ordering information and list the ingredients in his scalp oil and recontructive conditioner if you want it, just e-mail me.
Look at my pictures, I didn't put any thing on my hair except a little of his scalp oil and it is shiny without being weighed down.

Hi Diamoness. Your hair is very beautiful. Kudos to Mr. Stone!!! Fayettville would be much closer to Raleigh. I miss NC!

OMG! What other products does he have?
No wonder the only place I can find Natural Island Hair Scalp and Skin Nutrient is in Beauty World in Raleigh! I have a friend that lives there. I visit him once or twice a month. Of course I had to make a trip to the beauty supply. /images/graemlins/grin.gif I really like this stuff. It looks like regular old hair grease in the jar, but it's very soft and creamy to the touch. It goes on dry and smooth instead of wet and greasy. And it smells like a fresh grapefruit. This is the only Natural Island product I have. For those interested, the ingredients are: jojoba oil, coconut oil, aloe oil, vitamine e, grapefruit extract, beeswax and carrot oil.

I have found something similar at cornrowsandco.com called Island Citrus Pomade. But it costs almost twice as much!

Sassygirl, if you think you like the pomade, wait til you try his reconstuctor....OMG...just had a pleasent flash-back from when I first used it. It detangled my hair 100%, the comb just glided through. From that point on, I was hooked. His line is still very new b/c he was collaborating with a chemist to get things just right when I first started going to his shop. Girl, you have got to try it. He has his own relaxer, Cozette or somthin' like that. I call it a naturalaxer b/c it relaxes the curl or wave in hair without taking it to "bone" straight which leaves much body and movement. He says it's made with all natural ingredients and that the active ingredient is alkaline water....hmmm....i donnknow but whatever it is, I love it. He has been using that on my hair for ...next month makes a year. Here go the ingredients for the recontructive condition.

Maximos Reconstructive Conditioner & Detangler

Ingredients: Organic compounds with deionized water, cetyl alcohol, wheat protein, aloe vera gel, peanut oil, safflower oil, de carrot oil

Here's ordering info
call (910) 483-1052
or toll free (I think b/c the numbers are wearing off the bottle) ???1-588-854-1052 ???
Ask to speak to Michael Stone or leave a message...He'll call you back himself! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thank you so much! The phone # on mine is smudged, too. I'm going to try and find the reconstructor the next time I go to Raleigh. If I don't find it I'll definitely order it. How much does it cost? I think I paid $7 or $8 for the 8 oz. pomade...

It costs 7.99 for a measley 8oz. Gonna have to talk to him about that....( /images/graemlins/smirk.gif. It IS worth it though. I'm not sure if he sells it in Raleigh, but it's here in Fayetteville (45 min. away). Oh, and it smells soooo good. Holla back when you get a chance to use it...:)

Sorry about hijacking your thread, porkypig007 /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Diamoness:
I ordered the shampoo and the conditioner today. He called me back and we had a nice little chat. He's very nice! He made the relaxer sound so gentle and nice that I wanted to order that too! /images/graemlins/grin.gif
My stuff will arrive by mid-week. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again!
