Anyone had hair shedding or breakage due to a certain product?

I typically use KeraCare for my weekly regimine. But today I decided to try other products and I had sooooo much hair come out when I combed through it. I don't know of anything else I have done this week to make this happen...

Has anyone else ever have this happen?

I am so upset right now.....

I tried Infusium 23 leave-in about 3 years ago and it had too much protein for my hair, which caused shedding. I had to throw it away.

Okay, I'm a newbie, so this may be a dumb question. How do you know what products had what affect on your hair?? Does the breaking, etc. happen instantly???

Yes for me it did. Anytime that I comb my hair after washing I always pay attention to how much hair comes out in the comb. Yesterday it was a LOT more than the week before!!! At least this is how I know, now I am definately throwing the products away!!!

For me, it was the BBD Reconstructor. My hair was already feeling dry and the reconstructor made it feel drier. Even though I deep conditioned for 2 hours. It was just a sample I bought off of here. I know now that I will not purchase the full jar.

I think Emergencia (The Dominican Product) caused my hair to shed massively or the new shampoo i used yesterday. I mean my hair shed SOOOOO much that i thought if this continues i will be bald. It was saddening. So i don't think i'll be working that into my routine other than when i need a super deep treatment or something. I'm used to using 10 en 1 and Silicon Mix mixed together for deep conditioning and it was pretty much light shedding nothing i'd be severely alarmed about. But when i put that stuff in my hair or used the Nacidit shampoo, i literally had a clump of hair in my sink :( So i'm gonna calm down and just stick to what i know, hopefully it will help.

Design Essentials Relaxer (regular). Not sure why but it's been shedding for quite some time and this is the only thing that I can pin point that could possibly be the culprit.

it happened to me to. I thought I was in need of a ORS treatment. I did as usual and when I washed it out it was hard and dry and when I conditioned it/w heat it was still hard. I tried combing it out and I lost so much hair. That was the last time I used that. That is where I got the idea that my hair does not like tooo much protein.
It happened with the avocado treatment too! I will never do that again.

Not sure but I think Sally's Generic Humectress. The first time I used it I had a lot more breakage than usual. I'm washing tonight and will not use it and will see what happens. I've only used it twice so far.

Second on using avocado as a treatment. Just this past weekend I mixed avocado, 3 tbs of honey, and 1egg together and applied that to dry hair. I left that on for two hours before shampooing out. Even though I did a hot oil after and deep conditioned for 1 1/2 hours, my hair still came out dry.

Aphogee's balancing moisturizer. I don't know what it was but whenever I put this in my hair, strands would be all over my hands while i finger combed in the shower...that's before even using a comb...

I had shedding and burned out ends from using Surge. I could use it if I keep my hair moisturized with jheri juice though. :lachen:

Luster's S-Curl No Drip Activator Moisturizer Formula was a staple product of mine ever since I went natural. I loved the softness it gave to my hair.
Well, as my hair got longer, long term use of S-Curl started to make my hair too soft, then weak, and cause breakage. :( Ever since I've stopped using S-Curl, the breakage has minimize to a very great degree.
I also noticed more shedding over the last couple of months and now I'm not having as much shedding. But I think maybe I was going through a shedding phase/cycle then, who knows.
