Anyone from Mount Vernon New York???

Hey !

I will be in Mount Vernon next month to see my boo:grin:I am really looking forward to it!
While being in New york I am going to get my first relaxer in three years with mizani butter blends!
Was just wondering if there are any members who live in that area, and if yes what salons or hairdressers would you recommend!

Ok so after reading all the posts not a single person recommended me getting my hair done in Mount. Vernon :ohwell: so I guess I need to thank you guys I still can't believe that there isn't atleast one stylist there that knows what she is doing!
I did a search for salons in New york and did not really find anything wich is close to Mount vernon! N e pointers?

money earning, mount vernon! haha

enjoy your stay. i'm not from there, i'm from Harlem, but I reside in Hoboken

my SO moved here from Mt Vernon. There is a dominican salon across the street for him.

I know they do rollersets and doobie wraps. I wouldn't go there for a relaxer though. I can ask his mom where she gets her hair done.

Hey, I live in Tarrytown. It is in the north and more west section of Westchester County but I can recommend Donald at Trade Secret in the Galleria Mall in White Plains. He knows all about my healthy hair journey, and has respect for my regimen (UBH).

Sometimes he gets an attitude, but generally is really nice, very funny, has a kind heart, and is knowledgeable about relaxed hair.

The good thing is that Trade Secret and Beauty Express Stores and Salons only use Affirm Fiberguard and Mizani Relaxers. And they use all the products in the line which really impressed me.

If you go to him, tell him Maddy sent you. The only thing I would suggest though is to be FIRM when you refuse the trim. He is getting *****y about trimming off what is left of my bone straight ends. The first time I bribed him with double the tip if I didn't leave there crying and I didn't. I loved the way he took off only the see-thru. He said he "didn't want to traumatize me".

PM me if you need more info.

My sister in law lives there, but I live in Harlem. Honestly, For a 1st relaxer in 3 years I strongly suggest you go to a well known salon in the city. I could be wrong, But I don't think Mt. Vernon is the place to be testing stylist abilities...I just believe you will have more of a selection in the city. I don't know if you are aware, it is only 2 metro north stops to harlem and will drop you off in the "mecca" of ethinic hair experts. Also, I could suggest a few a little bit to the south of harlem that would also take care of you. I relax with mizani as well. Anyway, just my 2 cents......

**** Not trying to offend any mt. vernon peeps and all.....

I used to live in Purchase and would go down into the city for my hair. I tried a couple of Dominican places in White Plains but was not completely satisfied with the results. Even after I moved up to Northern Westchester I would still go into the city. I think you are better off going into Manhattan or the Bronx if this is going to be your first relaxer in 3 years. Check out the Salon Review Forum and do a search for salons in NYC. I'm sure you'll find some good recommendations there as well.

I don't live in Mount Vernon but I'm from Westchester and I wouldn't recommend getting your hair done in Mount Vernon...If you can find one girl there without weave or with healthy hair I take it back...On the flip side, there are really great BSS's there...There's a good salon close to Mt. Vernon in Yonkers; its called L.A. Advantage and its really nice. You can make an appointment with them as well. They use phyto-specific relaxers and only carry phyto, alter ego, salerm and paul mitchell products.

Hope that helps
