Anybody use a Wave Iron

what do you apply before you use it?
I want something that's gonna make them look natural/soft and not all hard and stiff.

I got one from Sally's, I believe it's a Gold N Hot. It gets super hot, much hotter than any curling irons, and nearly burned the hair out of my head. If you want waves, try a braidout. The wave iron (at least the one I have) is wayyy too much heat for me to ever use on my head. And I was using regular heat on my hair (blowdrying once a week and a flat iron everyday).

If you want to use heat to make waves, you can take a curling iron and press it against your strands the opposite way...then alternating with the correct way. Backward, forward, backward, forward working your way down the hair shaft. The results are soft waves. Hope I explained it well enough...

I use this iron all the time. I usually just clamp my hair for about 3 seconds, then release. I use ic heat protectant serum on my hair before I do this. The style usually last for about 4 days.

I use regular mousse, but I generally use the irons on my weave. For some reason regular mousse is the only thing that will make the waves defined but not hard and crunchy. The setting lotion would leave them kind of limp. I have 2 from target. Both are vidal sasson. The first one I had looks like the regular old school crimper/wave iron. I just recently bought one that actually said waver on the package. It's kind of big and weirdly shaped. The clamps look more like V's but I love it. The waves come out more natural. HTH...

omg cashew i do the 1-2-3-release too hee he then i make sure i put the iron on the next part just right so the wave continues

I also have the Vidal Sassoon one. It's nice when I want to change it up. I liked the results. It has a high and low heat setting.

not anymore, it tore my hair up..but my hair(&skin) is super dry. you can do beautiful styles with them if your hair can stand up to it!

I have a ceramic one. I ordered it from Ulta.com for $19. I used once. It worked fine for me. It made beautiful waves. I may use it once every 5 or 6 months. I don't use much heat since I am on my personal bun/braidout challenge.

Well my girlfriend, actually told me that I'm doing it wrong. She leaves it on her hair for about 7-10 seconds (and her hair is finer than mine).
I use heat all the time, but I shuddered to think someone would leave a heating appliance on their hair for 10 seconds.

Ive always done it manually  over , under, over, under
speaking of it, thats how Im gonna wear my hair next week :D

I sometimes use my wave iron for going out looks..my man seems to like it so do other men as well....not curls but crimping...they think its different haha

I use my wave iron occasionally...but I like the wave rods much better because you get the same effect but without all the heat.

Where did u get these? Any pics of them?

After reading sweetcashew's thread a couple of weeks ago I decided I would purchase one, but I don't think I could actually do it myself.

I got them back in the mid 90s. I love them, if I'm not mistaken you should be able to find them at the bss or sally's...I'll see if I can find a pic...
