How did it turn out? The one in my area charges $20 for a press and it'd be nice to wash and roller set at home and avoid unwanted trims.

When I was younger my mom used to take me to beauty schools to get my hair done. I don't remember it being a bad experience.

I'd say go any try it.

My mom took me when I was younger too. Had a large chunk of my hair burned clear off. I say avoid like the plague.

When I was transitioning to natural, I had my hair blown out and flat ironed at Aveda. it was an okay experience with the exception of the student trying to talk me into relaxing and telling me about how she relaxed her 3/4 year old's hair!

Three students (all of whom needed to complete class hours after the term ended) worked on my hair. The main one (relaxer pressure) did the treatment, a second student showed her how to do my blow out and a third student showed her how to do my flat iron. The main student clearly had no idea how to do natural hair.

I paid about $40 which included use of some high end Aveda deep conditioning treatment.
