It seems like my ends were fine until I started spraying them with Surge now it's breaking on me...not a lot but enough for me to notice. COuld it be the Surge? Too much protein maybe? I know some said they got rashes from Surge...anything else? Thanks!
Faith, can't believe it, you're not natural anymore. What made you decide to texturise?, i remember you were convincing me not to add chemicals to my hair. Anyway i'm sure it looks great.
About my experience with surge, i find it very drying on my ends, and I also experienced breakage, scabs on my scalp including break-outs on my face, the best thing to do is counteract these effects with an intense moisturiser and stay off the surge for a bit until the breakage subsides. You also mix it with some s-curl.
I texturized because I realized the heat was damaging my hair more than anything else. I like to wear my hair straight and being natural meant using alot of heat and using it often so I texturized. Now...I don't use heat at all and my hair is looking great. I actually don't regret it. I figure I can always go back..I did it once. If there is a next time there'll be no BC...lol.
Congratulations Faith, i'm glad your happy with texturizing, i agree the heat is more damaging when used frequently to obtain ans maintain straight styles, I can't wait to see your waistlength pics.
I'm not waist length...lol I wish. I cut off about 1-2" to even it up a bit so I'm still 3" away. Have been for over a year....sigh! I'm not in a rush anymore....I have quite enough to deal with as it is. I'm actually thinking of leaving it at this length to even out my natural layers bit.
I thought it was in my head before but now Im almost positive surge causes breakage for me...I think its protein overload for my hair. Everytime I use it for a few days straight I notice more hair comes out from manipulating it. It was fine before I started using it again. now I know and will leave it alone.
That's my thingtoo Leslie. My hair was texurized and it was fine. The ends were trimmed and were great. Then I started spraying surge on the ends and strands and they started breaking and snapping off. Not a lot BUT more than before the Surge. Thing is I'm using redkens' anti-snap and that has protein and my hair isn't breaking or snapping. All that started after the Surge and seems to be under control because I stopped using it. Hmmm!
yes and i did not realize it until yesterday. I went to the salon and my stylist told me that I had major breakage in this one area. I kow that it is from the surge because I would concentrate on that area in error. I would try on the scalp but it would end up pooling in that area. Needless to say I am going to stick witht he biotin cream. I am fortunate that my hair is thick so I will not have a major issue but I informed my husband that I was getting a weave in the back. Actually I am just going to make clip ins so I do not cause anymore damage.
I haven't experienced any breakage from Surge. I use it mainly on my scalp, but I also use it on my hair although not daily. And I follow up with oils/butters. I find it strangthens my hair. Maybe it shouldn't be used on the hair daily.
I never put any leave-ins with keratin on my ends for this reason, especially Surge. I notice more little pieces which means breaking ends, whenever I use it. Surge only goes on my crown and nape!
I dont use it on my ends but I think when I spray it on my scalp it gets on my hair too and when combing or whatever it distributes it down the shaft. then my hair gets dry and hard. *pouting* I REALLY wanted it to work for me, but everytime I try I start having problems with my hair...I just need to face it! lol
i used Surge (incorrectly) and it gave me big dry brown scabs around my hairline. I sprayed like too much to that area and didn't rinse it out everyday. I had no problem with it previously when I rinsed it out everyday. I think my hairline is farther back. I put some vaseline on the scab and wiped it off later. The scab came off with my some hair also.
