Bigen, powder hair color on their relaxed hair. If so, what has been your experience with it? Cathy Howse uses it exclusively and seems to love it. I am looking for something with some staying power, but it needs to be gentle on my relaxed hair. Can you help me?

I use it a lot. As a matter of fact I just went to the salon this Monday and had it applied in dark brown. At first I went to JC Penny but they said that they're not allowed to use any other color but Matrix. So I had to find another salon. Usually I try to do everything myself when it comes to my hair but applying Bigen is kinda hard and it can get messy.
I really love Bigen. My hair always always comes out shiny and moisturized. The color doesn't contain any ammonia. All you have to do is mix it with water. I recommend that you wash your hair (at first with a clarifying shampoo and then twice with Cream of Nature) and then apply the mixture to your damp hair.
So far I have used Oriental Black (which is a blue black), Black Brown (pretty much a soft black), and this time for the first time Dark Brown...but to my surprise my hair came out a soft black....oh well, I like dark hair...black or brown so I don't care.
I can only recommend this color. What kind of color do you want to achieve....black or brown?

My mom uses it a lot. She's used it for some years from what I can remember, and she's always has had relaxed hair. She currently sports a texturizer. I haven't heard her complain of the product yet.

Hi NAY007,
Thanks for answering! I am using black on my hair currently in a temporary color. Hair is so pretty when it is clean and shining and black! I know Bigen says it is a permanent color, but it contains no peroxide or ammonia. My former hairdresser thinks it is okay, but says it dries the hair. Your experience seems different. Do you apply anything afterward? From your description, I would want to use Black Brown...hope others reply and have the same good results that you do!

I don't think it's drying at all! But I always make sure that I moisturize and condition my hair a lot. But since you already color your hair I'm sure you have a good routine anyway. But I have to say again that I'm always surprised at how soft my hair feels after coloring it with Bigen.
This time after washing the color out the stylist applied some conditioner from Back to Basics, which smelled heavenly but didn't really do anything for my hair. I was glad when the phone rang and I told her to go on and get it and I can finish combing my hair:)
Let me know if you have any more questions.

i didn't like it. my hair was dry after i used it and it took me a year and a half to grow it out.

Oh, I forgot to say this: although it says "permanent" on the package it will wash out after a couple of months...gradually. But since it's not damaging you can use it all over again.

Do a search too. I did one and there's lots on Bigen. Try posts newer than 1 year.

Thanks, I will do that.
