Any Vacationing in the Dominican Republic this Year!

Who is going on vacation in the DR this year or has been in the last year. Share your thoughts and experience there. What's the places of interest? Are beaches are as nice as they advertized, sandy white sand and blue water. How are the resorts? Which resorts are location would you recommend. I've heard the crime is high there, but so is it here. You know that I'll be bringing back lot's of hair prod whenever I get there. My DH can't figure out why a vacation in DR. I need to convince him.

I'm going to be visiting very soon and I can't wait! It'll be my first time in the country. Like you, I will be stocking up on plenty of hair products.

I'm going Labor day weekend. I have a lot of friends that have gone. It is BEAUTIFUL and inexpensive.

Keep my posted. I'm going to have to convince my hubby to vacation there. I'm go the Bahamas Labor Day wk since it will be our anniversary.

I went to DR some years ago to go to school. I was there for 6 months. When I first arrived I stayed at Puerto Plata. It was nice, but I didn't like being around all of those other vacationers- just too many people. In a city that's, fine, but I don't like none of that at a beach if I'm trying to relax. Santo Domingo is a place to definetly visit. It's beautiful, except for the mountains of garbage along the coast. Samana is also beautiful and I enjoyed that a lot. I went camping on the beach, underneath the stars!! And don't venture inward because there's nothing of interest. I was in Santiago and that place was boring. And when you go you definetly need to stock up on hair products. That was one of my favorite past times down there, shopping for hair products. Be very careful with your valuables (money, jewlery, credit cards). DR was nice, but If I were to go on vacation again I'd rather go to Puerto Rico.

I'm going to Santa Domingo in 2 weeks...YAY!!! I've never been to DR before, but i heard it was beautiful...The crime rate is high because it is a very poor country, but in my opinion, those are the best and most beautiful vacation places

Yes, I've been here in the USA for 10 years and I must say this is my second home. I love the USA

My husband and I went there for our honeymoon (end of April-first week of May this year). It was good. We had fun until we both got the flu. We were in Puerto Plata at the Coral Marien resort. It had good food, the rooms were clean. The drinks were watered down, even the beers but we had a good time. Not sure if I'd go back anytime soon since there are so many places we want to see.
