Natural Girl - Yes, you'll want to check out Model Chick and CurlyCrly's hair. My hair also looks texturized although I self-relaxed with a mild relaxer. It's possible it is only texturizing my hair after all since I leave it in only half the time indicated on the box (because that's when it burns). I have mostly 4b hair.
Thank you Greatness! Yes, last year before coming to LHCF and the year before my hair was a lot shorter. It started really breaking off quickly when I was on a tropical vacation year before last. I think it was the sun and salt water plus the fact that I didn't condition my hair and I used major heating appliances ,like my hot comb and blowdryer constantly on my relaxed hair. My hair has been up and down over the years due to breakage from not knowing what I was doing and at one time due to a lack of iron in my system. It was a pitiful situation but thank goodness it led me to discover hair boards like this one.
ISIS, your hair is very pretty and healthy looking. Sometimes, I think about relaxing mine a bit straighter and leaving more of a wave. It's kind of curly/wavy now and gets a little curlier as it dries.
greatness, I started out about a year ago with somewhat shorter hair. I still trim it to get the layers out. It's definitely grown, but I don't know how long it is because it's been 3 months since I've worn it straight. I'm not much into measuring the actual inches of my hair.
your hair looks great!!!! I am loving it and your pictures are pretty looks like you guys was having fun. How does a texturizer work? How long after a perm can you get one? Girl holla at me
The photo is from a book called "Hair Rules" by Anthony Dickey. I have it, and it's a great book for anyone thinking of growing out there natural hair or getting a texturizer. It's very encouraging and not at all militant (no offense to anyone!). The women in the picture had a texturizer and color applied to her hair, and he explains exactly what he did in the book.
The hair tips won't be earth shattering for an lchf'er, but it's still nice to have. One of my favorite quotes in the book is, "There is really no such thing as good hair or bad hair. Healthy hair trumps all textures and types."
