Any texlaxers going fully straight?

Because I have and it has been the biggest hit of 2006 for me so far. I thought having texlaxed hair was the best of both worlds but it was too much like the natural world I was trying to leave behind.

It was nice having the curls but still too much work to keep it straight. Maybe I was doing it wrong. Just the smallest amount of anything and my hair would still go back.

I don't like a lot of fuss with my hair (#1 reason for relaxing in the first place) so I decided to go fully straight.

Anyone else share my struggle or decision? Even if I find out that I was doing it wrong I don't care at this point. Having straight hair is better than I ever thought. And just so y'all don't get the wrong idea, my hair is not nor will ever be bone straight. It has a slight wave and when it's wet it's even more wavy.

I just went straight two weeks ago. I went from natural to texlaxed 10 mos ago and struggled with the texlaxed hair the whole time. My husband doesn't want me to BC so for the last 3 months I tried transitioning back to natural but that was driving me crazy. I decided to relax straight and I like it so far. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck!

I was texlaxed and transitioned to straight. The tangles was too much for me to bare. I am so glad I made this decision.

Tried it, didn't work. Transitioning to natural. I couldn't get it strait and neither could the pros.

I love my texlaxed hair!!! Looking at some old pictures, I found that straight hair just looked so "blah,” flat, and lifeless around my face. My experience has been texlaxing offers more fullness around my face and style versatility for my particular hair texture (which is very, very coarse). I can change things up wear my hair super-straight just by wrapping or roller-setting it...no heat needed! But, I usually opt for waves. I also don’t have the line-of-demarcation breakage problems I had with straighter hair.

Steps to Go Straight from Texlaxed????

I under processed on my first relaxer on purpose because I just came out of braids. I am going to have to go straight because when I workout, it's reverting (not cute).

I need advice from the pros on how to do this. I am going to wait until I do my touch up, add olive oil to my mild relaxer. I will focus on my new growth and then at the last 5 minutes smooth through the length of my hair, excluding my very ends (I want to put someting on my ends to stall the relaxing process on my ends.) I will do a moderate protein treatment a few days before I go straight.

Please add recommendations, I'm just making this up as I go! LOL.. I know I need to get straight though.

Thanks ladies!!!!!!

I'm going straight against my will, but when I had curly hair I wore wash&gos 85-90% of the time. I think texturizers work best when you don't wear straight styles as much.

I'm seriously contemplating going straight. Haven't had a relaxer since my hair was about 1 1/2 inches long but I have seen so many women with beautiful hair on this forum that have relaxers (press and curls are huge on the west coast). This may be a stupid question but I'm learning...can you get braids (cornrows) without breakage with a relaxer?

It's all about what works best for you. I love the versatility of texturizing so that how i'm going to keep my hair. But it seems like you prefer to wear your hair straight so it makes perfect sense that you will go back to a straight relaxers. :)

Texlaxers were just not working for me I had too much dryness and had to fight with my hair just to get it the way I want. So I went straight 3 weeks ago and did a corrective relaxer on the rest of my hair. What a difference No dryness and super control and now I love the NTM silk touch leave in as my daily moisturizer... :D :D

I am from Los Angeles, I used to get the most beautiful dry presses ever !! My hair was so healthy and a swangin! Too much humidity in Atlanta for that, plus I sweat when I work out so presses just wouldn't work here. And now the textlax thing isn't working for me either because I am reverting. I guess this depends on hair type, lifestyle, style preference etc...

As for relaxing and cornrows, I would wait until close to touch up time to get cornrows, freshly relaxed hair generally is not strong enough for the tension caused by the braids and you may be asking for breakage. It's rough on the hairline also. I have fine hair, it may be different for others with more course hair.

I've been texlaxed for a little over a year and I agree about the tangles. I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm now in braids and I will be this way until after the first of the year and then I'm going straight. Can't wait!! In the meantime, I'm doing my research, picking up tips from this board, and babying my hair until relaxer time comes. Wish me luck!

Thank you so much for your insight. I have been texlaxed for over 3 years now and when I would do my own hair (prior to discovering LHCF) I would tangle somethin' awful. Keep in mind I'm learning here...you don't tangle as much with a relaxer, right?

You all are an inspiration. I have thought about trying to go straight. But don't want to damage my hair.

All who have gone from texturized/texlaxed to straight, can you post specifics on how you did it.
-- how long you left the relaxer on the roots
-- how long on the length
-- did you put something on the ends to protect them
-- did you do any pre-treatments and how fair in advance?

Any tips would be very helpful. TIA!

I'm also considering it. I love the fullness/thickness & texture of texlaxed hair but the tangles annoy me. I think the longer my hair gets, the more it tangles. It's funny because I never had a hard time detangling my hair when I was natural. I might go straight (well as close to straight as possible b/c my hair never gets completely straight) at my next touchup in a few weeks. If I don't like it, I'll have no problem transitioning all over again.

I was thinking of transitioning to "texlaxed" hair, but then I noticed that the parts of my hair that tangle the worst/most are the texlaxed/underprocessed parts, and the straighter parts (on my head) are easier to comb so I decided to stick with trying to get it straight. I can barely deal with the tangles I get now.

I prefer texlaxing too. I can go form curly::)

to straight, as seen in the siggy

I did about 6 weeks ago.Still love it.
My hair is easier to manage plus the no-lye relaxer is way cheaper then lye and I'am a happy self-relaxer now!Yeah!
(Lye didn't get my hair fully straight)

I've made a decision to go straight. My hair is quirky and it never looks good when I wear it out. It doesn't curl, it waves, so no wash and goes for me. If I straighten it, it turns into a bush. Not pretty. so just TODAY after much contemplation, I've decided next time I'm going straight.
